True I'll check on that tomorrow. Also thinking of choosing between Stevens or SRT. Which do you think is better??
-
You got kids and family , so it would be impossible to go through a company sponsored program and give them at least 8 months of your dedicated time ?
-
I'd go with SRT. They do lots of coast to coast runs.
I know two guys that went with Stevens and they both are suffering from small paychecks.Last edited: Jan 1, 2016

Keep pushing Schneider for that tanker job.
CTL Transportation might also pay for CDL school. This is also a good place to get started in tankers. They haul a lot between Texas and Florida. -
Ultimately that Schneider regional tanker job is what I want most. The recruiter told me .35 cent a mile averaging 1600-1900 miles a week. Something like $35 for each time you are present for loading or unloading of product. ($35 for loading/ $35 unloading). & something like maybe $25 for tank wash out. So to you does this sound like something good for a new guy that would be fresh out of school as far as pay goes? Idk if you have ever driven tankers or not but are you present for loading & unloading of product? & about how many times a week would you be doing that or getting a tank wash.
-
That sound about right for a new cdl grad.
Yes, I pulled hazmat/tankers 48 states with Tankstar. Made $65K.
LA is loaded with good tanker jobs. Get some experience with Schneider and much more opens up to you.
Schneider might be ok though and a company to stick with.
I was present for unloading and sometimes for loading. Most times would pick up a pre-loaded trailer. I'd do a couple loads a week unless the week started out with a long run to Pacific Northwest or California. We loaded out of Nashville,TN. 100% of the loads were deadhead back to the terminal in Nashville and it paid the same both ways.
That's one reason tanker drivers make good money. For example; pick up a loaded trailer and drive to Bakersfield,CA then one hour to unload and head right back to Nashville,TN empty. No waiting around truckstops for the company to find another load for you. Most tanker companies do this.Straight Stacks Thanks this. -
So for the most part how I hear stories about dry van & reefers waiting around for 5 hours or longer to be unloaded you don't have that problems with tankers just about an hour unload. & as far tank washes were you present for them or mostly just drop the empty trailer back & grab a filled one & they just sent them to get washed themselves.
-
I rarely went to a tank wash. Our terminal had their own tank wash, so we just dropped the trailers on the yard and hooked to the next load. Sometimes we dropped a trailer at a tank wash in Nashville, but didn't have to wait; just drop and bobtail to the terminal.
