Im trying to get some info on companies to either do a "lease purchase" with and/or companies to lease on to once I have my own truck. I live in the Tampa area and want to either stay SE regional or Intrastate FL. I have drivin tankers and flatbed. Never did dry van or reefer. Any info or advice that you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I live in Fl,. I dont work here.

That and I do not support lease purchase options that companies provide.

Hauling fuel or tanker is probably the most money he can make as a company driver and staying local or regional. That or finding a car hauler who pays percentage. Either way the hours working will be insane. Most everything else locally pays by the hour. Usually not much more than $11 - $12hr. Florida is difficult to find decent paying work.

I never had any interest in it so I do not know of any companies that lease owner ops or provide lease purchase options.

Sorry,.. I am not much help here.

^^^ I'm not a fan of LP options, either. I used to own a local refuse (trash-hauling) business in the late '70's and sold it, due to the headaches that new legislation kept putting on me, and is apparently still doing~ still not again an O/O and don't know that I want to be. Paid off my house and 12 acres instead.

OP, @Hurst is right; since you have tank experience, you'll probably make more money doing that local. I haul asphalt as a subcon for an O/O and make great money, home daily, and HE keeps the headaches. Yes, the hours are crazy (and sometimes longer than "should be") but the long-nose PB's are great. During the off-times for 6122 or 3257 I'll haul OD (over-dimension) loads as well.

You can make good money and get home daily without buying a truck. Especially since you do what I do; tanks and FB. Sorry I don't have any info on the Florida question; drive around and LOOK for places that have the equipment you are looking for, and walk in, introduce yourself, and hand them a resume. It's how I got MY gig; been there five years and trucking for 30.

Good luck, driver ~! Be safe.

Thanks. I've been stuck in this mindset of "the only way to make "real money" is to work for yourself." Glad to hear that's not really the case. I def am gna have to do some actual looking around this area. Just hard not being here all week and being new to the area to boot. I would love to check out the port/container drivers. See what that's all about. I do like the flatbed gig tho so far.

^^ I graduated HS in Bradenton, Florida but was not yet into trucking. There are SO many ports around the state, though.... intermodal might be a great option for you. I know here in Ohio, especially in the Toledo area, where we draw our asphalt out of the Shelly plant, those intermodal guys are home daily and make great money. Another reason why tanking pays well, often being right beside the ports.
You're welcome; good luck and be safe :)
ps: are you a vet? from your screen name, was just wondering. many companies will give you preference for that in and of itself, which is AWESOME.

I live up in Brooksville,.. its an hour north of Tampa.

I am an O/O,.. I have my truck leased to a carrier based out of Illinois. I run OTR,.. no specific region.

You can make a living driving for local and regional companies here. $40 - $50k a year is possible,.. but certainly not the norm. Most local drivers I talked with struggle to break $35k a year. I personally can not survive on that. I have accumulated too many bills plus I have expensive hobbies.
