hay, works for me, now. I know I was focusing on ATB, as you put it - because that is where a lot of confusion reigns, too. Besides, it's something I know a little bit about. Not much - just a little.
I never did think you were trying to cover/protect/whatever the OP - it did, indeed seem to me as though you was tryin' t' eddijimucate us neanderthal-type truckers - Never a bad thing, in and of itself.
But I think I understand how others might have not seen it that way.
Miscommunication happens
i want to be on the road!!!

Well, Geico notwithstanding, getting a date is a bear
(no, I don't mean I want a date with a bear, I mean it's .. um.. difficult) -
I know it is fun to joke about some truckers........... but there are a few things that really confuse me........
I mean, I know just about anyone could learn to drive a truck...... especially any guy......
But there is so much more to trucking! How do these "cave-men" types manage their logs, and their accounts and bookkeeping? If you want to make money in this industry, you are going to have to have some skills outside of driving the truck......... am I mistaken?
I know some truckers that can barely take care of themselves let alone manage a business........ I just don't see how they do it.......
Maybe I am making it harder than it actually is..........Last edited: Jun 19, 2008

Sure, you have a bunch like Ron Mars who obviously has a grasp of everything he needs.. but I bet a lot of successful O/O have outside help.
Leased to a carrier- carrier probably deals with it all (WAG - but it's one of the few reasons I can think of to voluntarily lease on)
Running your own authority - you probably have at least an accountant. You probably have "staff" (wife?) back at the house dealing with keeping the paperwork in order.
Other than that, I suppose they may be severely compartmentalized. At least adequate from a business perspective, just hopeless when it comes to grooming and social interactions.
I wonder what Ron would have to say... -
Hey, truckmunky which school did you attend if you don't mind me asking? I just graduated from a school near Gloucester that made the same lifetime placement claim but I knew it was b.s. and I would have to place myself in a job
