Here's the blueprint.
Get into tankers.
Get a year or two experience.
Buy a truck
By this time hopefully oil prices will be back on the rise and demand will be high in the oilfields.
Take your rig up there and get rich.
Right now oil is depressed and the oil fields are clearing out. But we all know oil never stays down. It will go back up in a few years.
Give me the trucking get rich blueprint. lol

That's what I'm talking about! A blueprint to making some $$$$. Why are so many truckers on here so #### depressing? I hope I dont get all saggy, cranky and negged out after being on the road. Some of you guys have been very helpful and I really appreciate you guys helping me out, but some of yal..... Boy oh boy. You guys sound so sad. I just asked what is the best way to make some money trucking and now I'm being talked out of trucking. If you love what you do, why wouldn't you encourage others to do the same? I'll go back to using the search tool and reading. No more posting for me, this is too depressing...(joking) but really, lighten upLast edited: Jan 2, 2016
SouthernThunder and Chinatown Thank this. -
My blueprint would be to put a little time in then get into LTL freight. Be home daily and make 65 - 100k+. Sleep in your own bed and not have to deal with the headaches of owning your own truck. That's just me, though.
Many drivers are depressing because the industry can suck the life out of you. Year after year of working the equivalent of 2 full-time jobs will do that to a person. But not all trucking jobs are like that. I happen to love my job, and it doesn't feel like a job. I work reasonable hours, make great money, and don't deal with the things that make a lot of drivers hate their jobs. LTL was how I made that happen for me.Pintlehook, Da Beast and bigounce Thank this. -
That sounds like a great option. Going home every night and making 65K+ a year would be awesome! What exactly is LTL freight? Is that similar as regional? What's a work day like for you running LTL freight?

I just run around my town making deliveries in the morning, and pickups in the afternoon. This is called P&D (pickup and delivery ): 1 or 2 skids at a time usually (less than truckload is what LTL stands for). Then I go home to momma.
The nighttime drivers who move the freight between the terminals get done in the mornings and make 80k - 100k (some more). They are called "linehaul" drivers.
It's like the postal service, but for small freight shipments.bigounce Thanks this. -
LTL = Less than truckload.
Its generally the term used for local deliveries. You go out and make a bunch of deliveries/pickups in your city just like a FedEx/UPS man, except you use a big truck and a lift gate. You typically get paid by the hour, rather than mileage etc. So like $25 an hour, and you work 10-12 hours, 5-6 days a week. You do the math. A good way to make money as long as you don't mind hustling and touching freight.bigounce and Bob Dobalina Thank this. -
How long I go OTR before I can look for LTL? I'm in South Florida. Do you think LTL is available in my area? -
Your first year will be rough...but you could get lucky. After 1-2 years experience, making over $50k will be a cakewalk. You dont need to buy a truck either.
But youre gonna have to start at the bottom as with anything and eat a little dirt at first, although you might still clear what you are now($30k)
I think its a win win for you to get into trucking if you dont give up right away.
