All depends on who is in charge of the e-log, but a few minutes over the 11 to finish getting in and parked doesn't rate squat with the carrier I am with. they know that there are occasions when things are not perfect. Maybe once a month at most I end up going over anywhere from 2 to 7 minutes and no one really cares. And that is while being on e-logs for over 4 years. I know if how far I can get with the hours available. I am planning my break stop a few hours before I actually need to stop. Getting caught off guard and going over is pretty rare for me. And in discussing this with a few DOT LEO's, they really seem to have more important things to worry about that you went over the 11 by a couple of minutes to get parked. Sure, there is probably some Barney Fife out there that wants to make a name for themselves that would get excited. For those times, like when going home, that I know I will not get close enough to pull off only a couple of minute over deal, I have coordinated several locations that I can drop a trailer and then bobtail on home off duty. At worse, just call the wife and come pick me up.

And the inclement weather or traffic thing that is allowed by HOS regulations still applies... you can go over the 11 by up to 2 hrs if you were delayed but could have normally made the run. But you cannot go over the 14 limit. So there are exceptions that are allowed. The e-log would have a fit even with that situation, but it can be documented by you and the carrier and pass muster with DOT. I have used that exception a couple of times in the last 4 years.

Always keep in mind... the ELD thing does NOT change any allowance or part of the HOS regulations. What can be allowed on paper, is allowed with ELD. I get the idea that some people are assuming the ELD will change the HOS in some way. The ELD mandate published by FMCSA clearly outlines that this in no way changes the HOS regulations. All the ELD is, is a dumb recorder.

some trucks that are 2000 are built in 99. Why didn't they thought about the date of manufacture. This proves that fmsca knows nothing about trucks and our lives.

How about we ask Tracy Morgan how an ELD in the truck that hit his bus made the roads safer?

Oh boy. This has never been about safety. This is solely a compliance issue. The HOS hasn't changed. Any other regulations haven't changed. It is all about recording and compliance. You guys really need to get off this safety thing and focus. I know it is hard to do, but at least give the appearance of trying.

That's all I here people talk about is safety. The actions of a few high profile cases, and the whole trucking industry is a bunch of outlaws. It's nauseating.

Guess it depends on who one is listening to.

The people making the ruling, clearly state this will prevent X number of crashes, and X number of deaths. That is why there is talk about safety, and how it really has nothing to do with it.

They want everybody to think it's about safety but it's really about control. Just like they use the save lives theory to promote gun control, but in reality it's about nothing more than a disarmed population being easier to control.

I'm in a slow 62mph company truck on elogs and I think this is a bad ideal.
If I pick up a 650 mile load that delivers in 25 hours, I can easily run it, take the 30 minute break, plus about a 12 hour break and easily deliver on time.
BUT, the super truckers who were on paper and used to stopping every 75 miles to flirt with the fuel desk girl to no avail or to nap at a rest area, are now going to have to work to deliver on time,
I believe there will be big hooded trucks crashed into almost every tree around because the driver fell asleep.

There will still be cheating. You think these drivers are really logging all their On Duty Not Driving hours?
