But doesn't a good pair of boots keep water on the outside?

I carry a pair of hiking boots for snow and mud and deeper water. I don't think the insides have ever been wet.
I don't venture into water more than 6 inches or so deep, so maybe that is where it gets dicey?

My favorite work uniform was coveralls. I had to have an inspection ready pair of coveralls which I thought was crazy. I can't get my good coveralls dirty.

They only issues me two pair in basic, had to buy them after that. 5½ years, I probably had 5 pair. They issued Combat boots, I bought and wore Jump Boots because the were easier to keep shined.

Once broke in they were pretty comfortable. Not much different that a good pair of Cowboy boots in that sense.

It was probably a lot different when I went through. I called it the Vietnam Hangover. Went in 79, it was a joke really.

Well then I will have to join the flip flops and shorts guys, because I want to be retired sitting on the beach.

I went through it in 85 during my summer break between my junior and senior year of high school. I was in the Army National Guard. I left the guard and joined the Navy after I finished highschool. I decided I didn't like living in tents.

Very True, that is one of the nicest parts of getting senior adn qualified in Submarines you get your own rack. And actually 3 people share 2 beds (and they are all in different watch sections) that way one of the racks is always empty so you can hit the rack, except in port then it is usually some sort of battle over the racks.
