Most larger cities have LTL terminals. They are the companies that have daycabs pulling doubles, to give you a general idea of who to look for. Here are a few examples of LTLs operating nationally or in FL:
Conway, R&L, ABF, Old Dominion, FedEx Freight, UPS Freight, and Southeastern Freight Lines.
Daytime P&D drivers make around $25/hr (+overtime at the better places), and linehaul drivers make over 60 cents per mile plus pay for drop/hooks, fueling, etc.
Are you near a major city?
You will generally need at least a year experience at these places, and most want more, but Old Dominion is growing so fast they are hiring less experienced drivers.

I did not read thru all 8 pages of advice. The main thing you can do if you want to make it in this business is to gain real trucking experience. That takes a few years of sucking it up, no whining, and driving for someone, some company. The mega carrier driver mills are not what I would call a career. It is unfortunate for a new driver that wants to break into trucking that is it a catch 22 situation. Everybody wants experience. Good luck to you and I hope you stick it out.

Oh, and this: get all your endorsements (hazmat, doubles, and tanker). Endorsements equal options. And money.

All the LTLs require all endorsements, even tanker.

If you think your Mother would be disappointed in you if she knew you had been with some Lot Lizard ?

Than you can't even began to Fathom the amount of disappointment she would have in you if you did a Lease.

Unless it was with Schneider Choice and only after you did one year with another major carrier and FreightWhipper was your mentor.

There are some good leases out there. I made real good money on a swift lease for three years. Two leases actually.

    This^^

I started thinking about leasing a truck from Western Express. I knew how much lease drivers average from having talked to them. The longer I keep running the numbers on the truck, the more I see that the lease/purchase program at my company is a scam.

I dropped that idea. I'm content to have the company pay for repairs on my company truck.

I live in naples Florida . I wanted to do a company training program as I think most of the schools in Florida aRe a scam.

I was hot and heavy about prime a year ago but after talking with them they will not hire me out of Florida.

Looked into Henderson trucking and their school seems to meet my standards and 38cpm with 2200miles garauntee seemed to be fair.

Sent my app in and they accepted me.

Been on the fence for 2 years whether I want to do this trucking thing.

I have spent a thousand hours in the last 2 years on this site.

A lot of good info here and great people.
