I will ask the Attorney when I talk to him (he told me about it). I was curious too. They didn't actually stop production because they filed an injunction, They can still produce them until a judge tells them to stop. I looked through their 3rd quarter 8-K and it didn't say anything about it so they must not be too worried. The EPA website is useless.

Not only PACCAR....Dodge ate a bunch of trucks with Cummins diesels a few years ago. Particulate filters would clog, no matter how easy or hard you ran them...ultimately shutting the truck down. My boss at the time turned the truck back in citing the Federal Lemon Law. It worked.

Looks like Inland Kenworth made enough money off the backs of the poor people who bought the hype to build a brand new building on 83rd ave here in Phoenix.
My customer sold the office furniture for the entire building.
And to think it came in on a 15 year old Volvo with Cummins power!! -
Don't worry. When you get sick of Paccar....look...the new 2017 Cummins.

Don't worry, they claim they will be better and more fuel efficient than the current better more fuel efficient lineup. LOL.
These manufacturer claims are like a broken record eh? It's really laughable. I still haven't been able to top the mileage and reliability of my 1988 Mack's and 98 to 2000 Cat's. -
"Defendants, as the manufacturer and retailers of the Vehicles, knew and
concealed at the time that they unilaterally imposed the terms of their express warranty (including the warranty’s durational and damage limits), that their Engines were defective and would fail repeatedly, initially during and then subsequently beyond the warranty repair period. Defendants also knew and concealed, at the time that they unilaterally imposed the limits on their express warranty, that they were not able to properly perform the warranty service that they had contracted to offer, thereby leaving the Vehicles defective, both within and outside the warranty durational limits unilaterally imposed by Defendants. Defendants also concealed and failed to disclose this knowledge to any Class members and took affirmative steps to conceal this knowledge by continuing to tout the supposed superior attributes and qualities of the Engine and their repairs/alterations thereof. What part of the true engine failed that wasn't part of any emission related equipment?
-
The most common engine failures are of course turbos and bearing failure as a result of carbon buildup in oil. Paccar claims 40K between oil changes because thats what other manufacturers are saying, they want to be competitive. We are gathering oil samples from as many complainants as possible to prove that those engines are not capable of going past 20K between oil changes. We'll be doing side by side comparisons of oil samples at defined milage, 10K miles Paccar Vs Cummins or Paccar Vs Volvo... 15K... 20K... 25K etc... To prove that the ATS is not keeping carbon levels lower in the oil as Paccar claims.
There are other engine related failures that can be blamed on the ATS, crank failures (probably related to bearing failures) etc...
The most important issue though is electronic failures. Paccar has never released any information on electronic failures, of the 300 people involved (about 2500 trucks) in this suit, almost every one of them have electronic failures (Re-gen fails to complete, re-gen temps too low, CAN-BUS failures). So that is the main issue that is going to be addressed is the De-rate due to electronic issues. They can fix the oil problems (by reducing the recommended miles between oil changes) they may be able to deal with doser issues by adopting someone else's technology (they have not been willing to do that yet because they would have to pay someone else for the use of that technology) they can address turbo problems with a different turbo manufacturer or different style of turbo etc... But Paccar has NO CLUE what to do about all of their electronic issues so they just lie to the public about it. THAT is why they are being sued, its always the lie that gets 'em. -
Yes, my Detroit and our old Mercedes have a ridiculously long oil change interval also. We do at it half that interval. Maybe that's why our 450 Mercedes has been trouble free while every other one I have seen has blown up.
Like I said, only good thing about these law suits is maybe all these engine manufacturers will start paying attention. What the EPA wants, and what a diesel engine need to run are two different things.goin2fast10 and Guntoter Thank this. -
In all honesty, so far, our MX engines are more reliable and fuel efficient than our Cummins by quite a bit. The main issues with MX's is the aftertreatment, which is the same system used on Cummins, Paccar does not make that. We've had almost every ISX CM2250 and 2350 get overhauled around 200,000 for using oil due to carbon packing of the rings. No such problems with any MX so far and most are over 300,000 now.
Both ISX and MX's have the same issues with the emissions, the MX have had fewer issues due to less oil getting burned through the DPF's. The government is the ones who mandated the 5 MPH derate for emissions issues, everyone's hands are tied on that one. IMO, if a truck can safely run, a 25% torque derate would force an owner to get it fixed and still allow it to limp to a shop without a tow.mhyn and daf105paccar Thank this. -
I wonder how many accidents are caused by de-rated trucks on the side of the road. Where is the public outcry about that? Someone always comes up with the "one life saved makes it worth whatever rule". Where is that logic on this? There never used to be so many trucks broken down on the highways. This new wiz-bang technology is a fail and it is time for the EPA to get that through their heads and stop pretending it is a workable solution.
