DON'T PAY FOR YOUR CDL!!!
Get a job somewhere that has straight trucks and semis. You can even start as a dock worker. They'll train you for free and you'll get paid for it. I really think this needs to get out more. All these people are committing to a crap company just to get a CDL when they could get real life paid experience. If you work for a company, and they know you are a good employee and want to drive, they'll help you get there. They'll want to keep you. Find a local freight company and go tell them you want to drive, and start out on the dock. That will put you in a great spot with the highest paying LTL companies if you decide to leave (with a free CDL that they paid you to get). When I got my class B, the company paid for it. When I got my class A, that company paid for it. They'll pay for medical card and everything. They want a good driver, and if you prove to them that you are a motivated worker, they'll help you move up.1johnb Thanks this. -

JRayl has a local operation here in Northern Indiana. They service AM General, and I hear Masonite among other things. The trucks look older, many are probably from Midwest Logistics, who they bought out.

JRayl has some trucks that run on CNG. A company I used to work for was thinking about investing in the CNG retrofit company so I spent a day at the Akron terminal watching them install the units and then we went on a test drive. The CNG trucks are gutless. I remember them telling me they usually don't go more than 300-500 miles out from the terminal, at least with those trucks. Trucks seems pretty basic, they run Peoplenet logs. I know the CNG retrofit company went belly up right after the installation so I would wonder about the ability to fix them if they break down. I don't remember seeing any newer looking trucks and the trailers looked pretty wore out.
Bob Dobalina and Jaywant2Drive Thank this.
