This may be a separate discussion, but with all the free time I've had lately to pay all of my got fees and such , I've been wondering why are subject to fixed rates based on a variable income. Think your 2290 , UCR , registration, etc. Should be a reflection of the national average.

Think that is a good idea, if you know any foreign guys or gals I think most phones and stuff have a translator. I'd like to see them run a thread on their take. Are they making money, getting ahead or are they getting what they feel like they agreed to?

I think a better way of saying say no to cheap freight would be to find customers willing to pay for your "unique" service. If anyone thinks a shipper will pay you more than anyone else without some advantage to using you, good luck. Better marry the owners daughter or something.

There is no wonder why truck drivers have an image of being stupid. First of all, there are no grants for anyone to buy a truck, I don't know why you all believe in that. Second, majority immigrant haters probably don't even read news and don't know what's going with the global economy now. Third, there are plenty of Americans even on this forum that have no idea on how to run a business. Also, who do you think is leased to Megas and runs for $1 per mile? Immigrants? Hell no, good old Americans.
The poster above who said he saw at truck stop how people booking the loads, were they immigrants? I don't think so, I have never seen immigrants just chilling at truck stops.
Lastly, I think what makes America great is immigrants, forget about truckers for a minute and think about all the scientists, doctors, engineers, read the statistics on how many of them are immigrants.
I am an immigrant, I am self employed and provide income for myself, I also opened a small business for my wife, which also gives work to three Americans. My two friends own a janitorial company, with Google being their biggest client, they employ 3 immigrants and 9 Americans. My other friend has a small construction company, which employs 4 Americans. Why didn't all these people open their own companies and just work for hourly wage? Because they are too lazy.
My kid goes to private school,I would say 1/3 of the kids there are Americans and the rest are Asian, Indian, Arabic and other immigrants. Now, tell me, you American Super Truckers, who hate immigrants, how many of you invest in your kids education? You probably don't even realize that it's gonna be no blue collar jobs in US very soon, everything what has not moved yet, will be moved overseas.
Anyways, typing on my phone, can't see the whole text and kinda getting lost with sentences, so not gonna continue anymore.
Let's get back to complaining now

So you are saying that your minimum cost to operate is the same as mine?

Mine is probably as cheap as you can get (equipment paid for, pre-egr tractor) but I don't use that as an excuse to work cheap. I probably demand a higher price than the megas

I agree, but I don't want anybody telling me what MY rate should be.
If it works for me, why should it matter what the rate is?
If the next time that load needs to be moved, the availability of a truck will determine the rate, not what I hauled it for the previous time.

What you hauled it for the previous time tends to determine a starting point for the following rates. I think we all want to make as much as we can. We dont do this for practice.

    Terry270 Thanks this.

    Starting point....yes.
The final rate, and if he decides to haul it, is up to the individual trucker.
