Not completely true. At least not in California. CDL holders can't go to traffic school if ticketed while driving a commercial vehicle but if cited in a non commercial vehicle they can go to traffic school once every 18 months.
What it boils down to is where is the OP from and what are the regulations regarding traffic school. -
I am in Hickory NC. I am not sure what the regulations are here, as I am new to the state myself. But I will definitely be calling tomorrow to find out what my options are. The part I am worried about is the length of time since I paid the fine. I was ticketed in August, paid fine in September. But then like a moron I did nothing about the ticket. Did not enroll in defensive driving or anything in September like I should have, so now I fear it will be to late even if I did qualify for it at the time.

Time heals all wounds. When I was younger I never took speeding serious and it caused me a lot of trouble. All you can do is learn from it and give time, time. You're not the first driver to learn these lessons and you won't be the last. Maybe you can talk with an attorney and get a free consultation. I started driving semi's in 1980 and had a major accident (head on) in 1981. It took about three years before anyone worth driving for would consider me. My last ticket was in 1998.Windir Thanks this.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply, once I talk to the county, school and then DMV I will get in touch with an attorney if all other options have been exhausted to see what can happen.

In IL once you have a cdl permit you are no longer eligible for traffic school, I thought that was part of the federal regs, but I guess I was wrongHotH2o Thanks this.

just a thought, when you apply to co's it says have you ever had. XXXX saying no because you have it removed will put you in a bit of a pickle.
2nd , having it expunged will not remove it from your record entirely. I was turned down for a tow truck job because of a bad ticket I had received. I called the guy and we talked, I told him the ticket had been removed. he said his insurance co went by what you were originally charged with regardless of the outcome.
3rd point. there are co's that will hire you with one ticket 18 over. if you are worried about spending your money and than not getting hired, then we are back to applying and being brutally honest with a training co. if they accept you and train you, you're good.
4th Sysco will hire you. what they may want you to do is be the driver assistant for a while to prove yourself. this works in your favor as they will also train you while you are DA to get your CDLajohnson Thanks this. -
Well that is some form of good news! I just got off the phone with everyone I can think of to call, and I am definitely stuck with it, lol...Don't know what else I thought would happen. The only entity I have not heard back from is the school. I am hoping they have the ability to make exceptions and might let me join this class with the ticket on my record. If not I will be calling companies to train me.
Thanks for the input Avenger79, I like the idea of working for Sysco, so that gives me some hope of still getting a job in the food service industry and not needing to go OTR just because of the ticket.
