So I am going through a divorce and wanting a career change but I have encountered some problems.
In December, I got a 12 over speeding ticket.
In April, a car accident due to mechanical failure...the steering column locked up during a left hand turn, and instead of turning 90 degrees, I turned about 110 into a parked Ford Probe, only about $2500 worth of damage. However the officer sited the ticket for unsafe speed during a turn....not sure how the heck that was possible in my neighborhood but whatever.....
In June I got a speeding ticket.....was late to pick up my daughter for visitation..I KNOW THE REASON DOESN'T MATTER....but it did to me that day....
Now, the accident and June ticket are still pending...not convicted/didn't pay anything...I guess I need to know if there is anything I can do. SWIFT told me that if I get convicted of one of them, that will give me 2 in a 12 month period and that excludes them from employers..Roehl flat out told me no..
Any help here.....???
Thanks to everyone!!!
Ok, I think I might be screwed....

Thanks for the input Biker, I thought lawyers just kept the tickets from showing points on your license...do they actually help from stuff going on your record altogether??
-
some companies look at points some look at reason some dont look at all.
You will find larger companies arent as forgiveable as smaller ones. However larger companies some times have good schools and training programs. dont give up though, there are almost 400,000 trucking companies in the U.S. There are even some that will hire with a dui. good luck -
I think the days of "looking at reasons" are long gone... They could care less why or how, all they care about is what is on there, Why? because there are 50-100 noobs wanting that same spot who have a clean record..
Do what Biker said.. You need to get a lawyer FAST i mean ASAP because he has to file on this and try to get the tickets and accident set all together.. What this will do is give the court a chance to drop 1 or 2 items and only convict you on one...
Look for a "former prosecutor" that now is a general practices attorney... If you can't find one of those in the town you received the tickets in look at the addresses of the attorney, find one who is so close to the traffic court he walks... Another is to walk into the clerks office and ask if they know an attorney (some will say they can't tell you and some will give you a name they know well.. I did this once and she gave me the name of her husband, ticket never even went to court lol)
If the tickets are not in the same county then you will not have the option of combining them... You still will want to get an attorney and fight... Express to the attorney that you need to keep your record clean because you are in training for a CDL and must have a decent record.. He may understand how important it is and get things done sooner...Last edited: Jul 14, 2008

Man thanks a whole bunch guys...I talked to a different carrier, and they said I would be ok with them, as long as nothing came out of the woodwork later on. However, I am off of work tomorrow and I have every intention of finding someone to get through this.....
For the record I know I did this to myself...and just to clear my name before any accusations are made...I am an adult and admit my responsible actions here...., before my divorce I had a clean record for almost my entire life...which I was proud of, just this divorce has taken its toll on me in every way and I am ready to move on with my life.
Thank again!!! -
Well if you read this forum you will find many people who was told that everything was okay by a company, just to find out after training they did not have a job because the company wasn't truthful and didn't follow threw... You still need to take this to court with a good attorney and try your best to get it from showing up on your record... It will be well worth the $300-400 trust me... -
dont forget that in this industry your license is your bread and butter. take good care of it, and make the extra effort to protect it. as long as you have a license you have a career
cat 500 Thanks this. -
Going to try and find a lawyer tomorrow.....should I try to find one that does alot of CDL experience type of work although I don't have a CDL right now??? Figure that might be my best bet, I dunno.... -
Find one that specializes in tickets AND accidents. It will be money well spent.
