Having lived there in Cleveland till 2011 and Fairbanks AK before that, I felt pretty OK driving in those conditions as long as I was loaded heavy and there was no ice. All a matter of skill and how much driving you have done in those conditions. By no means do you drive in it if you feel you shouldn't, snow never really bothered me, I hate the Ice though and refuse to drive in/on it.

Having lived in Cleveland my whole life, you never know ice is under the snow until you do. And every vehicle handles different in the snow. Every car I got, I would take to a lot and put it into a slide and correct it. Kept the meat on the drive tires.

None of that prepared me for driving a semi tractor, combination in the snow.

That's why I asked so many detailed questions. Because every one of them matters.

Now, there isn't a time I won't drive in the snow in a four wheeler, it's fun. Four wheel drive is a blast.

    Big truck with super singles......

    1. Yes, loaded.
    2. Not treated, not plowed, no lanes
    3. Visability sucked (night, heavy snow)
    4. No trucks in ditch (Then again, late overnight & hardly anyone on road)
    5. Wind not bad
    6. Yep, lake effect snow warnings

Ran 90E to 86 to just about 88, so definate ups & downs w/curves. So, couple hundred miles in those conditions. Provided a great teaching/learning opportunity & one of several reasons why student stuck around.

You know I'm born & raised Cleveland, so pretty much know what expect. I drive to my abilities and know my limitations. Snow doesn't bother me at all. Been through blizzards where my truck WAS the snow plow creating only lane, pushing snow w/the bumper. Ice & wind whole other story, depending on how it is. Light/empty certainly not good.

Definately something that comes along w/experience. That first winter on your own is usually something, especially if you haven't trained in it.
