Landstar rates , what are you guys averaging on all miles for Van?

Well most agents if not all (only have had one agent that haven't paid me fuel surcharge in my 2 1/2 years here) will give you a fuel surcharge based on current fuel surcharge rates but they take it out the linehaul. Some contract freight here have real good fuel surcharges, some don't...

I think @Skate-Board has his own authority. Most agents/brokers don't separate fuel surcharge for an independent with authority

 

I thought having your own authority was part of being with landstar? does this mean you can just own a truck and run under their DOT number.

 

Yes, there is a big difference. If you lease on to LS you run under their numbers, Liability Insurance/Cargo Ins. Etc. LS pays you every week. They bill the customers, collect the money etc.

With your authority, you file for your numbers, secure and pay for your Liability/Cargo insurance. Bill and collect your own money. That is just a few of the differences.

So, that makes you a 1099 employee being under landstar? you still get 65% of the load power only? so I would only have to make my truck payment and gas leasing to them? is there some kinda contract involved?

 

Yes, you would sign a lease agreement, it can be terminated at any time by either party

 

so what exactly do they mean by lease, if you already have a truck?

 

You're leasing under their authority, don't confuse this with lease purchase that the Primes and Schneiders of the world does
