When my late father took his driver's license, he also got a small book about how a car was build etc. I remember reading it, and there was a nice item about the transmission. It said that many drivers didn't like synchronized transmissions, it wasn't sporty changing gear without double clutching! What do you think would happen today if you would build a car with an unsynchronized transmission?
Look at that discussion about the Australian T600 and T904. I doubt if technically there is much difference between both trucks, but the T600 is more aerodynamic and saves fuel. Never the less the Aussie truckers prefer the steam engine look of the T904. Big chrome airfilters, big loud exhausts, and if it would be possible they would like to see those exhausts belching out big clouds of black smoke. It seems they need that to show the world "I'm a real man!" Well, I'm not impressed.
Do the Russians indeed prefer N/A trucks? I don't think so, otherwise DAF wouldn't have received an order for 700 trucks.
And yes, for all those electronics you need a mechanic who knows how to read them, and that you can't start to attack every problem with a screwdriver and a wrench. Many mechanics don't understand that, well they simply have to learn it. Modern trucks are loaded with electronics for the sake of the environment, and for the safety of the drivers and the other traffic.
Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

really 2000 DAF XF is better, becouse it got all disk brakes, EBS, electronically controlled air suspention
It is very sweet cabover but... more expensive.
'00 freightliner here is about $8000, DAF - from 9 to 11000.
Avia is east-german version of saviemking Q Thanks this. -
I checked out that 2000 DAF XF...single drive axle hehe...kid's toy truck
-
Well, then you checked wrong.
Plenty of axle configurations, don't you think?
The reason for the single rear axle configuration is very simple, the truck is far more manoeuvrable. And when you look at European trailers, you will notice that the axles are not at the rear end of the trailer like with NA trailers. They are far more to the middle of the trailer. That means that the trailer axles carry most of the weight of the trailer. With NA trailers, the weight is evenly distributed between the trailer axles and the tractor axles. -

It's early in the evening, and you can buy similar tractors from all European brands.
