That was my point from the beginning. I am looking at TMC, Melton and Maverick. None of these have schools, but the newbie pay is better and as far as I can see, all three are good companies. All I wanted to know is if anybody knew the loan requirements for an independent school. At what point would I need a cosigner?

It largely depends on the school you go to. Peak Technical Institute has zero money down zero credit needed financing.
The big thing is making sure that the school does their own in house financing....thats the key. The bigger schools use finance companies that buy the student loan and they rack up HUGE finance fees against you as a result.hharleywood Thanks this. -
Looks like a decent CDL program. They list a course fee of $3800 plus a $500 admin fee; $4300 total. They mention 150 hours, but I could not find a breakdown of how much time is spent holding a steering wheel. If you went there or have more knowledge, hopefully you could offer some additional info. I've looked at some other low budget schools (~$2k) but they seem to offer a lot of bang for the buck.

I'm not sure where you get your information but rate after training is 44.5 cents a mile not including bonuses. That's higher than both yrc and tmc. You couldn't pay me to work for yrc

I think YRC is union.

I did my research months ago when my wife decided to drive with me. Minus the false information given by twin screws on pay. I'll point out that the obvious he could not see. What ever company you pick your sure to stay at least a year unless they are horrible. School cost money and you get no paycheck for a few months. You still have to go thru a training program as a fresh cdl holder no matter where you go until at least you get at least 6 months. Pay at prime is as high or higher than any company I could find. And again you can leave after PAID TRAINING AND ONLY OWE 3K which is pro rated on how long you stay. It's not important who you choose but paid training is a lot better than school.

Yea they just run you like fed ex company. I'm not in to meeting quotas

Maverick has their own cdl school. It's in Newport,AR at University of Arkansas & provide lodging & meals.hharleywood Thanks this.

Looks decent but the red flag is they don't list the cost of the school.

Every month you stay employed, they knock $500 00 off tuition. Six months it's considered paid. So $3000.00
