Do they allow riders? If so, I may be looking at them in another year or so...

Spouses or kids 13+ only. No boyfriend/girlfriend, live ins or friends.

7 times a year max between may-oct no riders during winter months.

That was the only real downside for me because my wife loves to go with me. All the other positives about the company far outweigh that one thing though. You can bet she gets her 7 weeks in lol

Yup, union shop, it's an automatic bump, at least over here, complaining to management will do nothing. The guy passed his road test yesterday. Didn't really hear details how much training he'll go through before they set him loose on his own route, but all he got was a week of 1 on 1 with a CDL training company ....Now a bunch of other warehouse guys are getting all excited and that they're gonna get their CDL too now, and bump a bunch of us low guys into the warehouse.... It all comes down to one thing, one dumb #### that negotiated this union contract and didn't separate warehouse from drivers.

Sorry to hear that. Our stuart should be shown the short way out of the building to... when is your contract up? Have enough drivers to kill a vote? Things can change, but only if you have enough to push back

It's up in July of 2017, but don't think any major changes will happen. I talked to some old timers, said they don't try to push the company too much , just keep the free healthcare, and a yearly cost of living raise. I guess I'll just see how things play out. I've been driving 95% of the time since I've been there, I'll see if that changes when the "new" guy starts a route on his own. If they try to keep me in the warehouse too much, it'll be a tough decision to stay or look for a new job. It would be tough to walk away, and with my luck, if I quit , week later I'll hear that some driver quit or got fired lol

Just because kid got his cdl, doesn't mean insurance will allow him to drive without the experience that they require.

Yea I thought about that too, but figured they ran his name before they shelled out 3 grand to a private CDL trainer.

My $2. Just because he got a cdl doesn't mean crackers. Might not be a driver, might not like the environment of dealing with everyday delivery. Stay cool. Hell they'll probably ask you to train him on your route. Been there. There's a reason for things it's just hard to see it sometimes. Personally I would of stayed in the warehouse. That guy has no idea what he's wading into. Good luck you'll come out on top.

    I agree with okie dokie.

We're set up a lot like the OP- in terms of the warehouse and drivers. Though if the warehouse comes into our department they go to the bottom of the drivers seniority- while keeping their vacation and benefits etc etc.

Every once in a while a warehouse guy will see us drivers getting back at 1-2 o'clock and decide he wants to do this. To date, not a single one has survived. One guy (a 15 year warehouse veteran) decided after a week he wanted out. The driver boss said too bad, you signed up for it- we need you to finish out the month and we can switch you back then. He called out sick the rest of the month. Lol. True story.

Not to toot our own horns, but we (all of the professional drivers out there at any company) make this look easy. As we ALL know, it's anything but easy. Let it play out. I think you'll be surprised. And once he realizes being a driver isn't as easy as you make it look, it'll be awhile before another brave warehouse guy goes for it

^^^ well said both of you guys. That is true, everybody thinks it's so easy. Just because it's not very physical. Especially waking up at 2 am, getting off at 5 and right back in 10 hours. to me that's the hardest part.
