Oil haulers lock in all the time. There's no paved roads to the wells. If they get stuck in the mud. It comes out of their paycheck. They also have to chain up. Most of them dirt roads are 20 miles.

Your type of driving is so unique I have never seen a setup like you guys go through with your road trains. Just driving the truck is so different from what we do in the states that our advice is only general and could never be specific unless we did the same. Your best bet is talk to another road train driver and see what they do.

Having worked oil field in Canada for a long time , pulling super b's at 136,000 lbs or more most of the time , in mud and snow and on hills that make you suck on the seat cover a bit , I have always used the power divider or interlock , not always full lock ups and have found when you point up hill with the multiple trailers , all your weight is in the back and you loose traction on your drives as a result . So if your going slow anyway, ( manufactures do not recommend my methods ) to get the traction on your drives , drop the tractor air so the lead trailer leans heavy on the drives , this will give you traction . May not be good for long distances but i n the shorter slick sections it works . Note ... better if used on a company truck .
