Another DWI big truck...

It is illegal to have unmanifested alcohol in the truck. Besides, why even push your luck? Does anyone REALLY need a drink that bad?

 

Reason why i ask is because i was at the pilot in oakwood illinois for my reset, while there i made small talk with a landstar driver. Just happened to notice that he had a 24oz tall boy in a plastic bag on his way to his truck. He parked right next to me.

If this guy had a mind here's what would be going through it: I'm a douche-bag who has no sense of responsibility yet somehow I've found myself behind the wheel of an 80,000 pound machine. Life is unfair to me so I'm drinking this beer. I can't understand why truck drivers have such a bad image. etc etc etc..... The company, Coastal Cool, should be held responsible for hiring this guy.

 

It was a nice looking Freightliner Coronado until the driver rolled it.Coronado models have two different body styles,of which the one involved in the rollover was the older style, which are mostly sold or built as glider kits.

 

The article did not say that he had been drinking as a few are assuming. It did say that he was under the influence of a controlled substance. Last I heard alcohol was not a controlled substance.

In Louisiana they have what they call drive thru daquiri stores which are basically like a McDonald's for mixed drinks. You can get a rum and coke to go without ever getting out of your car. The only rule being that the employee can't put the straw in the cup for you.

Certain medications with alcoholic content (NyQuil,Robutussen) or other certain controlled substances (Sudafed,for example) are illegal to use while operating a CMV and have been for a few years now. DOT is very clear on the alcohol matter,none is allowed whatsoever in the cab of the tractor,not even in the storage compartments.

 

Nope, it's not illegal. Seems it just a popular perpetrated urban myth, kinda like the one about not being able carry a gun otr. The regs only mention being on-duty and being in control of a motor vehicle. There is no rule or regulation forbidding you from drinking in your sleeper. It makes my head hurt when drivers keep regurgitating this over and over.

It's not. Again, there exist no law, statute, rule, or regulation forbidding you from possesing it. Unless you're consuming it in a manner which would make you fail a bac test while on duty. It's the same as hand sanitizer and baby wipes, both of which contain alcohol.
