Oklahoma trucker thought he was struck by rocks — turned out to be gunfire

It was part of a string of highway shootings.

A 36-year-old Texas man was arrested on Thursday after shooting at a semi truck on Interstate 40 in Oklahoma.
According to police reports, 36-year-old Jeremy Hardy, who was arrested in Custer County, Oklahoma, was the prime suspect in a series of highway shootings that took place on I-40 on Wednesday night and Thursday morning
In total, at least four vehicles were struck by gunfire in the shooting spree, resulting in the death of two.
A truck driver whose rig was shot several times, provided a description that helped police find the alleged shooter.
Truck driver Josh Morris, of Weatherford, Oklahoma, told officers he saw a four door black pickup speed past him twice on Thursday morning. The second time the pickup drove by, he heard a loud bang and thought he was pelted with rocks.
After pulling over and taking a closer look, he discovered four bullet holes in the cab of his truck.
“I heard a ‘thunk’ on the side of my door and he whizzed on by and went a distance,” he told reporters. “At that time, I didn’t know how fortunate I was. I call it an ‘Oh, Jesus,’ moment.”
Police said Hardy was their prime suspect in the shooting. He was identified as the registered owner of the gun, and also matched witnesses descriptions.
On Thursday night, Hardy was stopped and arrested on DUI charges. He is expected to be charged for the shootings on Monday.
Hardy’s father believes his son is innocent. “That seems so not him” he said.
