Look for work with seasonal farms. I'm no industry expert, like ChinaTown, so I only know what I do.
I've got a nice little thing going for myself now with this farm I work for. I work from October to the end of June and then take the Summer off. The only downside is that they harvest directly into the reefer. This method takes forever to get loaded.
I guess what I'm saying is this. It's easier to take a vacation when your employer has little to no work to be done during the months you want off.
Is it possible to take to vacations a year?

I generally only work 8 months of the year now. But I own my truck free and clear. Costs me $110 or so a week in plates and insurance to park it in the driveway. Even went home once and took 67 days off. It was kind of fun being inspected that first day back. The DOT officer actually asked if I really took those 67 days. Told him yes... He said, "It must be nice to have a job where you can take that kind of time off especially if you can afford it. Wish I had that kind of job..." I came close to telling him to invest in a truck.
I can honestly say that after all these years I do love my job--when I choose to work it.Ufc Fighter, Grijon, CasanovaCruiser and 3 others Thank this. -

It shouldn't be a problem if you stay out for quite a while. The only issue being is that you will most likely lose your truck to another driver who needs one. Companies don't like their try is sitting not generating revenue. So when you get back, you'll have to move into another truck.
I stay out 2-3 months, then take a week off and. Repeat. I basically take 4-6 weeks off every year and have never had an issueHeckng Thanks this. -

The bigger story would be if the truck you are moving into was previously inhabited by a pig...with a smoking habit and incontinence issues
All these replies by people seemingly incensed by the thought of taking a few weeks off per year. I think I have become spoiled living in the UK for so many years as the norm here is 28 vacation days per year...fully paid, and you are entitled to that from your first year of employment. European Union laws are good for some things.
I wouldn't expect to be able to do it for the first year or two, but the idea of working for 10 months straight and taking 4-6 weeks off is very appealing as I have friends and family in 4 countries/2 continents so 3 or 4 days "hometime" wouldn't be enough to make the time and money spent visiting them worthwhile.
I can imagine it would have to be a case of formally resigning on good terms and getting rehired after your time off. -

I know what you said, I would want 10 months though. Maybe 10-15 years from now I may want that sort of schedule if it suited my financial needs.

I'm a big fan of the 7 on/358 off plan myself. Could never seem to find a company that would let me work a second week though.
