I was ordering a sub at a truck stop at 4am a couple of weeks ago when the server said to me "You're a trucker?"
I said "Yes."
He said "But you're in shape..."
I have a couple of extra inches around my waist so I don't know what that says about us as a whole.
I have an adjustable dumbell in my cab and make use of the excersize rooms at Schneider Operating Centers. I eat properly when I am on the road. But when I get home, out comes the beer, pizza and ice cream.

We have alot of truckers who carry hand dumbells around 10 pounds, and they lift when they can.
I also used to carry some weights in my truck when I was driving for exercise as well.
Being able to take a break at night, stretching your legs and lifting some weights helps keep one alert for night driving too. -
It's a very sad statement that Joe Public believes all truckers are overweight.

The little things that happen over the road don't seem to bother us as much when you are exercising and putting stress where it belongs.

Yes, exercise is a great stress reducer. It's a shame more people haven't discovered that. Maybe we'd have less "road rage" and more kindness.

One of my favorite upper body workouts doesn't require any weights. I just do pushups on a curb, sets of 15, over and over again until failure (less than a minute rest between). Sounds like work, but I actually enjoy it.
