As someone who runs lumber and trains on a decently regular basis, no, definitely not. I appreciate a well stacked and strapped load of timber. I'll see if I can grab some pictures the next time I take a set of trains out.

 

I was too tired yesterday to be able to process this but I get it now. There is no issue reversing up the bed with the counterweight?

I honestly don't think I've ever tried going up a rollback in reverse on a small lift.

Ever try driving a skidsteer with no attachment on, up a bed?

Dads got this old 1954 fixed neck lowboy. Short little thing with a beavertail.
One Friday afternoon I went to move my cousins cat to the next job. Was a nice hill there so I backed up just to where it leveled off. Threw my railroad ties down. Good deal, A nice easy approach. Then I find out they need to do a lot more cleanup and need it for the weekend. I didn't need the truck so I left it there and took a pickup home.

Monday roles around. I fire up the truck and get the cat going. Start walking it up over the ties. I got on the trailer and just as it's ready to break over the hump the ****** truck and trailer take off down the hill with me on back. Talk about an eye opener. The cat swung to the right and the whole show is picking up speed. Then she slid a perfect 90 degree and off the back I went. As soon as the drivers got some weight back on them the truck slid to a stop. I had forgot that old trailer didn't have spring brakes. And sitting in the same spot all weekend so of course the air bled off the trailer. The Pete only having one axle with maxi brakes didn't help any. But boy what a ride.

Actually own a couple of them! Some of us need a refresher periodically!!

"Best Ride" for me was on a D5 Cat, on the tail of a tag trailer, with no spring brakes, on the back of a single axle S model International dump, in the pouring rain!!

In the rain, in a rush, didn't block the trailer tires. Started up the trailer, saw the weight come off the truck springs but continued on.. Got totally on the trailer and the truck tires almost hopped into the air and we started rolling!! I continued on to get them back on the ground, which they did, but on the wet ground didn't bite and continued to slide... Drove all the way to the headboard and still sliding picking up speed!!! Hit reverse to back off and it was as though I sat still and spit the trailer out from under myself!!! She didn't stop till I had backed all the way off and had track touching dirt!!! Truck had swung around enough at that point that it was just shy of being jackknifed.. No damage but an EYE OPENING experience!!

 

I worked for a moving company as a teenager. One day we were in a very affluent neighborhood parked facing downhill. I was on the ramp with a refrigerator when all of a sudden the truck started to roll. Ramp refrigerator and I crash to the ground but I stayed on my feet. I set the refigerator down and took off after the truck and was able to get in and apply enough brakes to get her to stop before hitting the multi million dollar home at the bottom of the hill. That truck had bad brakes but the driver forgot to turn the wheels and leave it in gear. Once we had enough weight on the truck she was gone.

 

Straps got a good work out this morning.

 

And my company questions me on why I want 18 winches

 

Awesome! Straps, Chain N' Binder, Safety Triangle, Tailgate Bulkhead, and A Toolbox Headache Rack... All he needs now are some running lights and decking and he is in business!

 

Load I just finished today had 17 straps on it. Really only needed 9-10 but I guess the driver wanted it to look like a mummy lol

 

Both of my trailers have 16.

A couple more would not hurt......
