I have a question that I am sure I can get answered here.
I have read a lot on these forums about all the different companies and all of the different opinions as to whether or not to pay for your CDL yourself or go with one of the training companies.
I am 46 yrs old, married with 3 kids ages 17, 15 and 13. I have worked in the mortgage industry for the last two years and that business has basically dried up. The last few months I have been working as an independent contractor hauling RV's and the last 3 weeeks have been dead-as in no loads. My wife does work so that does help a lot in paying the bills but not enough with three teenagers. LOL
I have a choice between Schneider, PAM and Prime to go and get my CDL and work for and I am looking for opinions as to which way is the best to go.
The one downside to Schneider is the 18 month commitment as opposed to the other two at 12 months.
I am looking for a balance of home time (I know will not be a lot for the first year) and steady income.
Any suggestions and comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all in advance for your responses.

Schneider may be more to your liking. Despite the long term commitment.
I'm not a fan of Schneider by any measure of the stick. But, based on your needs and other things. That would be your best choice. -
Danc,
Thanks for the reply-the only other reservation I have about Schneider is all that I have read about the idle time they allow-I do not sleep well in excessive heat or cold. (Who does LOL). I have heard and read that their training is fantastic so that is one thing I do like about them.
Like I said-Iam looking for all opinions and I really do appreciate how helpful most people are on this forum. -
Once again I would like to suggest that you check out in-state community collages. If they offer a cdl course try to make sure it is accredited. If you accept company training you are obligated.

China,
Unfortunately none of the community colleges in the area offer CDL training. The other problem that I see is that even if I could get it elsewhere, the amount of time it takes to get it would be prohibitive.
Thanks again for the advice though. -
Investigate.... my course was 8 weeks, and check out your state unemployment / employment security office. There were students in my class that had their motel and course paid for by the state. (NC)
