I have 24 winches on my 24' ten wheeler. And keep 6 2" ratchets which I use about every load it seems :/
Better to have it and not need it.

Least I don't have to wait on lumpers!!!!!

    MJ1657 Thanks this.

That would be awesome to have that many. I carry a dozen or so 2". 4" straps do not work well on alot of what I haul.

    tsavory and Ruthless Thank this.

I have least a dozen 2" on my trailers as well. Some items just don't like 4" like you said. N some areas without winches are hard to hook a 4" ratchet on (got a few of those as well, for when you really gotta crank down and have some WLL)

    tsavory and MJ1657 Thank this.

I have some 3" straps with 3" hooks so they will slip through the stake pockets. I have some stake pocket winches for the other side. Like you said for those times you really need to crank something down.

I take a file to the bottom side of the stake pocket if I have to do this. That edge is very sharp on my trailers.

    tsavory and Ruthless Thank this.

I gotta get some 3" I end up having to use 2" on stake pockets and I don't like that.
I don't have and have never used the stack pocket winches. Do you like them/are they really useful? Something about the way they look just....doesn't turn me on.

    tsavory and MJ1657 Thank this.

Stake pocket winches are nice when you need them, I have two. The only thing that I don't like about them is you can't wind up very much strap on them. Rarely ever use them on my flat, the step I use to have I used them a lot.

tsavory, MJ1657 and Ruthless Thank this.

Stake pocket winch's are OK. If I don't need something extremely tight I just use a 3" portable ratchet. They have there purpose but they are not the greatest. Make sense?

A word of warning on 3" straps. Alot of them use a 4" hook.

    tsavory and Ruthless Thank this.

A good length of Shock Cord works the best in the wind. You can hook / tie it off anywhere and toss it over the load before you tarp it. Be sure to pull it slightly taut on the other end, so the cord can stretch over the tarp. When you are unrolling your tarp, just stretch it over it to keep it from blowing off. The closer you can hook it to the load, the less the air can get under the tarp. These places have good cord,... bungeeco.com and tarps4less.com. That said, tarps are sails, and sails move boats,...I don't know that I would put a weight on the tarp! I can see that becoming a Projectile real quick!

    Ditto.

I end up rolling my excess and securing it to my strap with a reuseable zip tie.

    tsavory Thanks this.

I do that as well, only my zip ties are not reusable.
