I've done it both ways .... Cleaned the shoes up and run them and just replaced them....
Do you replace brake shoes after they've been covered with gear oil from a blown wheel seal...?
P.S just changed another pair that were pretty thick..,

If they r pretty thick I usually put them in parts washer then spray them down with brake clean
-
I have cleaned them and put them back in my stuff only. Brake effectiveness is always down until the oil that has absorbed in the pad is boiled out. Brakes got to get hot and rescuffed before they work like the should.

As Superhauler said. I've cleaned them up if there is still a lot of pad still on them. I put back in otherwise change them
-
We prefer to change them, but we have also just cleaned them as well. We inform the customer ask them what they would like.

Old timer told me one time.... on a car now so it would take more here. He said clean it with good degreaser or gas, dry with air then coat them real heavy with baking soda and let them set over night and wire brush the next day. It does help pull some of the oil out but not all.
Ozdriver and pigeon river trucking Thank this. -
Seldom do they need to be replaced IMO. In a case like this, definetly replace lol.

Yeah if it is super nasty and half the pad is gone then for sure new pads. If the pads are like new then I clean them.
