You're right and I'm one that loved the career. Trucking or Merchant Seaman for me and the wife was adamant it wasn't going to be Merchant Seaman even after I got my document for ordinary seaman. Trucking is a great career where even a high school dropout can make $65K easily after only a 4 week school.
How to enter trucking????

The op is probably tired of putting up with his liberal colleagues and entitled students and is ready to go truckin'.
No names left Thanks this. -
There's some real nut cases in teaching; especially at the university level.rachi Thanks this.

You sound like someone who will be very useful! Do you have suggestions on good schools? I live in Georgia

If your dad is a trucker why not ask him? Or is he going to think your nuts to leave a stable job for the unknown......roadmap65 Thanks this.
-
I have asked him but I want as much information as possible and his experience is definitely not going to be the same as others since this is not a cookie cutter business

Minimize costs - What I would do is take the written tests ASAP get your learners permit. Bug your friends for lessons on the weekends. Practice backing with your own pick-up and trailer. And find a way to take the test by summertime. With CDL in hand apply to ag. and construction companies even if it is off-road. Some will take a driver with little or no experience. Decide before the end of the summer if you like it more than teaching.
If you fail no big whoop. You are out nothing and what you learn on your own will apply to the crap classes you can take. You can always take the schooling and apply to mega-crap companies. Those mega-crap companies will pay about 35k a year working 70-90hours a week so do the math and figure what that is a hour.Tim Creamer Thanks this. -
He's leaving teaching so he dont go nuts!
-
That is exactly right

People who get fired from burger flipping and then go into trucking as a last resort probably wont like it.
