Does anyone know if they will work with someone who has no OTR exp? I searched and didn't see anything saying it's one way or the other.
I'd like to go O/O and own my own company. Was looking at Schneider to learn the ropes and freight, and I been reading that they'll pay pretty well. Looking to run pretty hard to try and bank as much as I can to poss buy a second truck eventually.
Any additional info you guys/gals have would help.
Thanks,
Dave

It would be much simplier to mail me a check, same result. Want my address?
You can learn this without losing everything in the process. Attend their school, and drive for them for a couple of years. Then decide.
The industry is in the midst of birthing pains right now. Not a place for someone with ZERO experience to take on a new truck payment, then try to learn the ropes. -
I don't know about the no otr thing. email there recruiters and ask.
this is what I can tell you. I'v been tossing arund the idea of doing this as well for a few reasons. first they have no minimum age restriction on o/o trucks. second it's good to have a big company behind you when you have an older truck and don't know the history of it. if you break down they can have it repowered no problem, you don't end up buying a load of starberries or something like if you work for yourself. plus they have a large service network to find a shop. they pay fast, pay is decent, I wouldn't call it good but to get started it's acceptable. you do get there fuel discounts which can be upwords or $.30 gallon. right now they are giving a $1000 bonus on your first check and they pay $500 for orientation.
they just started up a percentage program which works allot like Landstar. basically you have a laptop and the freight is all online and you get to go pick what you want to run, where, and for what money you will run. this is the ONLY program I'd work for them under. I would not do the normal mileage lease. that's just me though I like control.
They can get you up and running with almost no money. you get a fuel card and you can get insurance from them if you don't have money for your own although getting your own would be best, cheaper anyways.
anther reason I am thinking about it is that they will sell me a set of tires for my truck at there discount price on the first day which will save me like $1000. Landstar wants to make me wait 6 months before getting any of there discountsMarkvfl Thanks this. -
I took his post to mean he is a driver but doesn't have otr specificly. I may be wrong. I wouldn't ever recomend someone who doesn't know anything about trucking becoming an owner. the vast majority of people who start trucking have some crazy romantical idea of trucking and that end up not lasting 6 months because that's what they expectDaveAz and david07003 Thank this.

Exactly...
I'm not new to driving...I've had my cdl for several years, driving local. Let it go a couple years ago, and went to computers. My gramps used to own his own fleet since before I was born. I drove for him off and on through the years, locally. I just never learned the business side of it back then.
I just figured going with Schneider, would be better to start. I too was looking only at their percentage program. Thanks for the additional info...that's what I'm looking for, any and all info about the program from those who know or are in it. -
Also...My little brother drove for Schneider as a comp. driver, for a few years. He made good money, and never really complained. From the outside looking in, I thought they were a good company.

they are a mega fleet so I don't know if I'd call it a "good" company but it's probably the least bad of the big companies.
-
"I" felt they treated him pretty well. He would say so too.
-
they do. they have real nice terminals with great amenities. the pay for the new drivers is low but like I said they are better to the new drivers then any of the other companies.

What do they pay for O/O's I still see alot of other company trailers with the ad on the back saying they will pay you 95cpm??????
