Stupid question gorgeous the day. What's the difference between lumber and steel tarps? I would assume steel tarps are thicker to resist tearing.

Sitting in Ontario Ca since I can't pick up my load till 1300 tomorrow

I carry two 28x24 with 8x8 flap mixed gauge lumber tarps. 18 guage on top, 14 gauge down the sides.
Steel tarps are 28x16 with 4x8 flap, same 18 gauge on top and 14 gauge down the sides.
Gauge is the thickness of the material. My lumber weigh 112 lbs each,.. I did not have the steel tarps when I weighed the other two. I'd guess between 60 - 75 lbs.
Place in Tampa, Fla sells these. I liked the idea of the longer tarps so 2 tarps will pretty much cover anything I do on my 53' trailer. Plus the mixed gauge thickness made them a bit lighter. Still heavy when your trying to lay them over an odd shaped load by yourself. But have been pretty durable for the most part.

Ok. I have a 3 piece set of 8 foot drops with end flaps. So lumber tarps. They come in very useful for those 6 in tall loads from bull moose.
I like the 3 piece for lightness and most of the time I only need 2. The only time the 3 bothers me is when the load is just a foot longer then 2 and I have to pull out a 3rd tarp to cover it. A cheater tarp is on my list of things to get.tsavory Thanks this. -
Had to put extra crate on rear trailer too tall up front they lied on measurements said it was 52' long all crates and they where 4' tall my measurements came out to 54' long 4'8" tall back tarp is 27×24 turned sideways front is 27×24 with flap and center 16×16 fun day then add 15 mph wind while doing it.
Riprap, passingthru69, Sleepy68 and 6 others Thank this. -
