Well I'm done with Canada forever.

Never did Canada, and never will. You're not the first driver to get screwed by the jackbooted thugs on EITHER side of the border, and you won't be the last.

Somebody tore MY truck up like that, and I'd hit the international newsfeed as a "TOP STORY" for the amount of damage and general mayhem I'd cause. Of course, I'd also probably be dead, but at least I wouldn't have to stand trial and serve prison time! Always an up side!

 

What happened to you was totally insane and ridiculous.

But truck drivers should know by now that they are suspected terrorists by having to submit to a TSA background check to get your hazmat endorsement.

I used to hear when you crossed the border, if your CDL showed you were from Texas or Oklahoma, they just assumed you had a gun.

 

That sucks but makes me wonder if they had some sort of sting going on yesterday because I read that an Amtrak train crossing into Canada at Rouses Point was held up and tossed upside down. They were held so long the crew ran out of hours and everyone on board had to be bused up to Montreal. Id still rather deal with Canadian customs going into Canada than US customs on the return.

 

That happened to me a couple years back. Got pulled over north of Edmonton, AB at 2am. I just assumed it was for speeding because I had just lifted my truck and put 33's on it and my speedo was reading 5 over (so probably like 15 over when you factor in the tires) when he flipped on the lights. Guy comes up to my window, gun in hand. Starts questioning me about everything. Runs a check on me and the truck, comes back and apologizes for inconvieniencing me and asks if I had seen another lifted white Dodge truck around. I guess there was a crook out driving a similar truck doing B&E's for a few months prior. I thought for sure I was gonna get tazed, shot, or cuffed that night. I don't blame the cop as he was very polite and respectful, just doing his job but I was scared as heck.

 

Canada gave us Justin Bieber, nuff said.

That's horrible ethos.I don't blame you one bit.how long did it take before u could go? How about all the other people that was crossing into Canada,were they searched like you was?

When you cross an international border, you have no privacy. When I first came to the US as a teenager, customs was very, VERY thorough in their search of my meager suitcase. They go through computers and phones looking for kiddie porn. I doubt they have a desire to read my texts to my son or my girlfriend, but they could if they wanted to.

I went on a run through Blaine last Friday to train a new driver who happens to have a muslim name. First time in six years, I was backed into the dock, truck searched, background check, the whole thing. Nothing much amiss, other than they managed to put my cab card back under the seat, and it slipped on the nozzle of my can of window cleaner when I pulled out of the dock. That was a mess, but at least it was a clean mess....... I did flip them crap about it though, but in a good natured way.

On the way back, same thing, x-ray, backed up to the dock, sigh.

In general, the US guys are far worse to deal with than the Canada guys in demeanor and consideration. We had a driver spend 6 hours at their "remote location" while they unloaded the entire trailer and reloaded it. I think they put you in an uncomfortable position on purpose to increase the stress level. Apparently, people with something to hide tend to crack after an hour or so.

One thing about hauling live fish, though: they are going to think twice before unloading the trailer!

 

I dread crossing a port for the first time. More often than not I get the 3rd degree. One time I had a young girl in Lacolle, QC that turned me back to the US to wash the ice and frozen dirt off my deck of my empty trailer.

Me: "You're kidding. That dirt was frozen on the trailer when I left my yard in Ontario"
Her: "How do I know that's Canadian dirt".
