This morning after an hour in cold wet conditions I noticed my fan was on and my dryer is "unloading" every 30 seconds. I assumed I had some frozen moisture in the system but it's above freezing now and it still continues. I have a load to deliver so my questions are
    1. Am I hurting anything other than my fuel mileage?
    2. Any guesses what the issue us?
I assume the dryer issue is my govener, but would that effect the air to the fan?
    Thanks! !

It isn't going to hurt anything if the fan stays on other than your fuel mileage. It will also keep your engine temperature cooler than you may want in winter. You may check to see if you may have accidentally knocked the fan switch to manual. If so, it will keep the fan running. There should be two fan settings, auto and manual. When it is set to auto, it will come on automatically when it reaches a certain temperature and then go off when the temperature drops. When you say your dryer keeps unloading every 30 seconds, you may be hearing the pressure relief valve, sometimes called the pop off valve. It should be located on the side of your air compressor. If it is the air dryer, you may need to replace the filter. Usually, when I have had an issue with the air dryer it is due to grit getting around the valve and holding it open. You should be able to feel or hear air escaping from the valve, if that is the issue. My guess is that the constant unloading is the pressure relief valve. There is the possibility that the air governor is defective. If so, you should be able to feel air escaping from it.

I don't have a fan switch and I couldn't figure out if they are connected or a coincidence? It did this last week but stopped once it warmed up, it is planned on a trip to service next Tuesday for some unrelated stuff when I get home but that's a couple thousand miles away. Was just wondering if anybody had seen the Same things.

Are you sure that your fan clutch is not leaking air while engine is running? That would explain both problems (1) fan stuck on (2) air leak causing dryer to purge excessively.

Fan hub bad. Had it replaced at a shop recommended by volvo dealer in kankakee il. Mechanic did a good job, tho the guy running it was an ###hat. River Valley truck repair. His credit card machine wouldn't take a Canadian Mastercard......called his provider who tried to do it manually but he couldn't get it thru. I called my Canadian bank who said it was all good no problems on their (my) end. So then look for a bank mschine to get a cash advance, run into the $400 a day cash advance from the machine, I need $800...... go find another, declined, $400 American is over 500 canadian, so now I'm over the $1000 per day cash advance on my card... go to a bank, can't remember the name of it, small I guess as they can't read ANY of my canadian cards (am I in Afghanistan? ) so off to a major bank where I have no problem getting another $400 from my savings account. (We're 2 hours in now) back to the shop, I ask him for a little off the bill for my inconvenience, as it was his card machines fault (more on that later) and he gets even more ignorant than he was when "my" card was declined. So I pay him in cash, eat all the associated fees and time and head out. Here's the best part, .... I get a call from Master Card fraud detection and they are checking on my card and all the action on it. I explain all the issues and that I'm not happy a Gold Mastercard wouldn't work and she goes into the transaction and opens it up. THE IDIOT PUNCHED IN THE 3 DIGIT CODE FROM THE BACK OF THE CARD WRONG..... if I wasn't already an hour away I would have gone back.
Anyway, good service, expensive, and the guy running the place is a cranky ###.

Glad you got it fixed! Too bad you were not closer to Detroit. Have a lot of Canadian customers.
