Hey drivers I'm out of Savannah, GA looking for advice on how to get into a legitimate LTL gig. I've been researching companies and so far I've been looking at old Dominion US Foods and a few smaller companies. I've submitted apps to these companies and I've heard nothing from any. Not even acknowledging they've been submitted. However I recently was offered a non union job driving a flatbed lift truck combo. 17 an hour time and a half after 40.. 50-60 hours a week with full benies. The pay seems a bit low from what I've seen from other companies but I could be wrong. They offer up to 3% annual raises which equates to .50. Is this a fair wage? Or would I be selling myself short?
Need advice on local / ltl work

US foods is a good company to work for. My son works for them out here in Cali. I think he is about $25 an hour plus lots of overtime. Any good benefits. And there Union.
RobJ Thanks this. -
Have a couple friends that work there, definitely not cut out for everyone but agree with everything you said. If I didn't get into fuel hauling I might have gone thereRobJ and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
Visit an Old Dominion terminal and ask to talk to the terminal manager.
What about fuel hauling? McKenzie Tank Lines has a terminal in Savannah and hires new cdl grads. One of their trainers that lives near Mobile sometimes posts on here and says it's a great company
Trimac Transportation hires in Savannah and has tuition reimbursement for new cdl grads up to $5000.00 and you can make over $100K there in their "Elite Fleet" once you get 24 months experience.Last edited: Mar 5, 2016

I second what Chinatown said. You need to visit or pick up that phone and call the Old Dominion terminal, or any LTL terminal that you're interested in. Don't wait for them to get in touch with you ... you want the job, right?
