They said they were gonna use the 16 hr rule. I just thought i would ask because they have told other drivers to run until they run out of time and we will meet you and switch vehicles.
I thought it sounded kind of shady.

Perfectly legal, since you aren't driving a CMV the HOS do not apply once you're in the car. As long as you always return to home base, the 16 hour exception is another useful tool to get you home...just read up on the requisites so that you know when it is available to you.

when i ran local hear in atl, in a day cab.as long as you didn't exceed the 75 mile air miles rule.(away from the yard) you could work 15 hrs.and i did that mon thru fri every week. its in the fmcsr rule book. pretty sad when you have to show the safety dept that. they should know that.

It is 100 air miles, and that only works up to a 12 hour day. Exceed the 12th hour, and a log book is required even if you stayed inside a 5 mile radius. A 16 hour day is allowed once per week as long as you always return to the same place...NOT every day.

If you've got a reg that states otherwise, post it up. If what you did was legal, it wasn't due to anything in the FMCSA regs. Might've been a GA thing if you were intrastate, but nothing in the federal regs allows you to work 15 hours per day 5 days per week.

...unless you were back at the yard within the 14 hour window and then worked the dock (on-duty NOT-driving) for the rest of the day...and then had a 10 hour break before driving again...and on Friday, make it back to the yard before your 70 expired to finish the day on line 4 working the dock.

If you were driving past the 14th hour or after being on duty for 70, you were in violation...even if you stayed local.

You can stay logged on duty for a solid week if you wanted to. The key is having the required time off before driving again.
