ROFL, yeah back when hubby was a company man, he had a Lab/Chesapeake mix. You didn't go near hubbies truck. Dogs hair would stand up, and he would bark incessantly. He had the spookiest eyes, so no one would mess with the truck, didn't want to find out what personality was behind the eyes.

That was a great dog. RIP Otis. :biggrin_2553:

Some people call the aero trucks, 'Chicago trucks', because there is no handhold outside the door. I sure miss that darned Columbia.

The only place I have ever had someone jump on my step without asking was in Chicago.

It isn't legal to use aerosol cans as repellents, although I think it would be better than clocking someone with a 24 inch pipe wrench, or other, assorted, blunt instruments. It would swerve the purpose at any rate. Livestock marker spray in the eyes would repel without as much tissue damage.

there is no sure way to keep somebody from climbing on your truck if they are determined to do so. the best way to act is react before they act. take control of the situation before they have a chance to act. try not to make eye contact with them as it seems inviting to them. if they do come your way it is best to just shake your head no and look away but keep them in your perifiual view. usually they just walk away. like you said a truck driver usually has the look of one and might be asking for help or something else. these panhandlers walk around and the worst thing you can do is let them in your truck. too many things can go wrong as the police might be looking for him and now you are being questioned about his or her dirty doings. i personally just shake my head no roll the window up and turn the radio up and ignore them. they usually take the hint and walk away. if i feel uncomfortable at all or have doubts about anything i just move the truck to another spot. i have never had any situation go awry and put me in jeopardy. most truck drivers look out for one another at truckstops and are friendly and will help you out.

Reading the original post, is it customary for truckers to drop down to 9 when they enter a truck stop/rest stop to shut down?? When I go solo, what are the main channels to listen to for information (from other truckers) about slow traffic, accidents, etc.? What channel does law enforcement use? And what about a scanner to listen to other statewide law enforcement?? anybody know of a website to go to that lists most freq's by state??

Channel 19 is the usual. Good luck finding anybody on 9.

Channel 9 is usually the emergency channel. It even says so on the CB.
Channel 19 is the standard channel. Hence "Break 1-9".

This reminds me of the time, that my son had sprained his ankle, last summer at a baseball game , we had to go to the ER, I saw this indian fellow standing there, getting a shot, he was bleeding, pants tore, very disheveled looking. When He was finally done , and we headed to the truck, there he was, asking me to take him down town, and that he had got into some trouble in a Texas holdem tournament, and he was from out of state. I try to be a nice person, so I told him he would have to go in the back back, he was not happy with that idea, I said hey if you want a ride, thats it!! This is after several other people had turned him down in the parking lot already!!So he gets in, and I told Kev, keep an eye on him!! He was very confused , I could tell he was on something?? We get to where he said he wanted to go, and how did I know I would have a hard time getting him out of the back?? I park and get out, because he is not going any where, Kev locks all the doors on me. I had to argue with him and I told him look I took you where you said you wanted to go, and this is the end of the line for you, time to get out!! Finally he gets out very upset, and he still has no idea where he wants to go, but there was a pay phone right there I told him to call someone, if he had to. He finally went behind the telephone company, and I was relieved!!!:biggrin_2552:
