Not really the cascadia has both a trip and leg meter. So I reset my trip meter every week, and the leg meter I reset every time I fuel the tanks completely full then I all I have to do is read the pump to see how many gals I pumped and compare with the the trucks ecu reading of how many gals I burnt and I know whether or not the ecm is correct. It always is.
Series 60 vs. DD15.Which one do you prefer ?

A friend of mine who sold this truck to me (the one I am driving right now) and got a brand new 2016 cascadia said he save about $1,500-$1,800/month with the current fuel price. He put down $30,000 and the payment is $2,100/month on 72 month term. And his deal with freightliner also comes with 6 years power-trans warranty (2 years factory + 4 years extended).
What he said was pretty much put down 30 grands and drive a brand new truck with the warranty and the money he save from fuel goes to the payment. Less headache on repairs. Looks good when pull onto the scales. When the truck paid off ,it should be right around 500,000 miles and then he will sell it for 30k-40k then get the new truck again. I am not sure the way he is doing is right or wrong but he seem to be happy with it.
P.S. I am trying to get information as much as I can before making the decision. This is my first truck (I paid him cash for $20,000) and getting a brand new truck is a big deal for me. Thank you everyone for your opinion.Last edited: Mar 13, 2016

Even if he were to go from 6mpg to 8mpg (beyond optimisitc for half-way comparable trucks), with diesel at $2/gal he would have to be driving 20,000 miles/month to get the savings he is claiming...Toomanybikes Thanks this.

Exactly. You'd have to be running team. And thats about the number you can expect out of an evolution mine is at 8mpg lifetime but its always had an apu on it as well. At 125, 000 miles/yr the difference between 6-8mpg is around $830 a month now subtract $120/month for def and your at $710. As a new o/o I would stick with what you have because its paid for. I'm a new o/o and I personally would have never considered an evolution if would of had to finance it. Starting out with an older reliable cash truck, you're doing the right thing jimmy.jimmyboy Thanks this.

My service manager provided the following tidbits to me:
-dd15 is freightliners most expensive engine to maintain
-85% of their work is emissions related
-the mega carriers keep rows of dpf filters at their shop. They can swap and get the driver rrolling, then bake them at their leisure. Keeping that kind of stock on hand is an indicator.
I drive an ‘O8 series 60 14l. Tuned to 550 hp and possibly some other work. It runs and runs. Fuel economy sucks, but maint. Costs are low.
