You don't need homedates in Greer. They make them for you. I don't consider you "the enemy." I just see you have carved out a good situation in High Point, those opportunities don't exist in Greer. I also converse with other drivers in the 3 terminals I visit, and know that the way things are done at my terminal seriously inhibit opportunities for earning. Grievances and concerns have fallen on deaf ears, with concerns either belittled, or threatened with "help filling out job applications." Glad you are happy, things aren't as rosy everywhere else.

Yeah that does suck that they won't let you stay out if you want to. I have plenty of 1500-1700 mile weeks. At this stage of life I enjoy them. I would probably retire if I still had to run the system.

Occasionally I talk to a coworker who thinks he wants my situation. Then he realizes I make much less money than him. I am probably the lowest paid driver at my terminal other than the local/regional guys.

I hope you find something good. Ethos makes north of 80K as a company guy.

Someone mentioned in the Superior subforum that Greer doesn't like to keep their drivers in the system because the terminal makes more money that way. I haven't experienced any politics, but that does make me think the terminals kind of compete with each other to get better equipment and all that. I've driven about 2800 miles, with one day of layover, this past week in the system. I'd say 2500 miles per week is pretty typical for me except for the slow season. I would not be happy with sub 2K mile weeks either and would go elsewhere if it became an issue.

Glad I'm not wrong in my thinking. The system dispatch is using in Greer is the primary reason we are down 10+ drivers, with more ready to depart. On another note, transfers are verboten in Greer. To my knowledge, none have been granted, although we have a driver that lives in Kingsport domiciled out of the Greer terminal. Head scratcher, to say the least. I would advise the original poster to go with Savannah. The future of the company is there. The Terminal Manager and Dispatcher recieved their BA from Georgia Southern, 3 years for the TM to go from Dispatcher Trainee to TM. Same will happen with the Dispatcher. They have raised morale, increased revenue, and their Drivers are happy. That's where I'd go if in the original posters position.

I doubt the rate SPCR makes on a load is any different(more) if a Greer driver pulls it. They just need to cover the loads to keep the business. TMs are evaluated on the bottom line at there terminal. Turning down freight affects that. Ironically more drivers at the terminal would probably help. Then more of you could stay out if you wanted to. It sounds to me like they need everyone home to keep up with outbound freight. How long are you usually in before getting another load? At one point a few years ago Kingsport drivers were home a week sometimes between loads.

Can choose from the same 3-4 loads 34 hours after getting home. Yes, terminals do receive a larger percentage of the load when a domiciled driver is pulling it. Fact. Yes, I wish they could reach hiring goals. I could go into examples of reasons for unrest with drivers, but I'll distill it into one, personal experience. I was dispatched on a load from Karns City (my regular) to Dallas. I had just enough hours to get there, and early enough to take a 34 before delivery. I was directed out of route to Greer, instructed to drop the load and end my trip. When I asked questions, understandably upset, I was told " we aren't going to have you do a 34 out on the road when you can do it at home." Would any other Drivers here be upset? What say you, wysrob?

If you don't mind me asking, what terminal are you domiciled?

If I got to stay on the load I wouldn't be too pissed off but I like home time. If they take me off it for something else yes I am a bit pissed. It should be the drivers call on how its run.

TMs are responsible for the bottom line. I remember my first or second year I ran a couple of loads before getting empty in Providence RI. I get a tank wash from Springfield for High Point so I am boogieing down I-95 on home. Got a call from HP dispatch saying somethings not right stop and he will call me back. Turns out HP didn't want the deadhead and knew there was a load sitting in Springfield. The load was to Pensacola Fla. This was Feb. I felt kind of bad taking it from a domiciled Springfield driver they were holding it for. High Point was going to have me drop it on their yard but I asked to go ahead and run it and they let me.

    If you ran o
Put yourself in my position. The load was given to a Greer driver. Another driver was put in the same situation recently. He went "squeaky wheel" on it, and was able to keep the load. Without too many details, he was told a "new driver" was going to deliver his load. After a phone call to the inbound terminal, he discovered the load was going to be given to a "Cool Kid." Straight out lie from the dispatch. Great morale and trust builder. With trust and integrity, you can ask people to eat glass and piss Tiffany stained glass, and they will do it. Without it, you are wondering why you can't find anyone who will go above what is called for. I perform my job professionally, punctually, and cheerfully for the most part. Getting harder and harder for the cheerful part.
As far as being deaheaded home from Springfield, my dispatch wouldn't go to bat like that to get me that load, and if I did get it, they would pull another "Dallas" on me to give it to a member in good standing of the buddy board. Last sentence isn't very professional sounding, but the truth isn't always pretty.
