Well, got my truck back, still wobbles like a drunk. The shop tightened the yoke, but said the bearing on the transmission is bad!?
Fan, fan hub and balancer are all good, so are the engine mounts.
400 dollars of diagnostic time found nothing wrong with the engine! Although it still has a rough idle!
I guess the mechanic can't start the truck and sit in it for a minute or two!
My only option is to change the bearing, but I have no idea how that effects my idling?
They said I could run my truck for a while before needing to replace the bearing. So that is what I am doing. -
I am having similar issues with my '12 Volvo. Rough idle when cold. Smoothes out after reaching operating temp
Any ideas? Oh, 470k miles -
Its injectors. Well at least one . Cut out test wont tell you which one if you run it when warm .
-
but I'd check solenoids too.....

When I start my 06 isx when it's cold it( "hunts"KW mechanic term) idles rough. We did injector cut out test(cold engine) and they were fine. Was told it was the timeing solenoids.Straight Stacks Thanks this.

What do the solenoid actually do? I have an isx and just curious? I have asked a few mechanics and have not gotten a clear answer?
-
Two are timing metering solenoids ,two are fuel metering solenoids and one in the middle is for shutting the fuel on and off.
yb226, Tug Toy and Straight Stacks Thank this. -
Yea thanks, I know that. I am curious at to there actual function? I see there are 3 holes on the back side of them. I pulled and cleaned my shutoff valve this weekend and it works much better. My truck idle a little funny and cummins said it would be the fuel metering solenoid. Just curious what they actually do?
-
My understanding is the two timing solenoids use fuel pressure to adjust the timing on the engine. The two fuel metering solenoids adjust the amount of fuel?
@Smellfunny would be the guy that could answer that question.Last edited: Mar 19, 2016
