The cops that searched my rig acted like they thought I was raging stupid. I think its part of their mind screwing that they do to catch you off guard and spill your guts.

Brick, I've no doubt they are trained to act this way. Makes it more likely that someone who knows they are in the wrong, confess on the spot.

I have heard that Aids trick myself. I think someone here at TN posted it, LOL. I have always remembered that one.

I swear, if it ever happens to me, there will be a full story posted on TN and 4 other trucking sites, with names face and pictures.

Someone may have given them a false tip or a tip about a similar truck? Sounds like he was pretty sure he had something?

Has anyone ever heard of probable cause?
What was his probable cause in stopping / detaining you like that?

Did you think to press him for a reason?

Not your fault if you didn't. I doubt Mr. Trooper was ever going to let you have the opportunity to even think to ask that question.
He's too well trained at being on the offensive when it comes to the average Joe Citizen he stops.
Most troopers go to preek school before let loose on the hiway.

And never do what I did while once in a similar situation.

After Mr Super Trooper hit me with the same questions a second time in a row, I figured I was gonna have to watch an entire episode of "Cops" played out before me.

I went to my side box, pulled out my lil' collapsable lawn chair (fishin chair) & propped it up near the truck on the grass of the rest area.
Set my boombox next to me & proceeded to make it look like I was enjoying some sunshine.

That doesn't go over well with the gestapo.

When he/they wanted something, I just motioned or mumbled that it's all there in the truck in plain sight in front of them.

Finally, I think they decided they taught me a lesson in wasting enough of my time to get me in trouble as punishment for my lack of fear.

I hope they got the lesson I was trying to teach them...

It's not very easy to intimidate someone who just doesn't care.

On the subject of probably cause if you refuse they'll just get a warrant. All they gotta tell the judge is that they suspect you of carrying. Now days that is all they gotta do to get a warrant.

If they have to go get a warrant it'll waste a lot more of your day. They know that and thats what they use to pressure you into allowing them search with out getting a warrant.

I know we're not allowed to post links to commercial websites, but there's a trucker hat on Cafe Press. I've got a mind to buy one myself. On the hat is the Fourth Amendment.

    The United States Constitution
    Fourth Amendment
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, house, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath Or Affirmation, and particularly Describing the Place to be Searched, and the Persons Or Things to be Seized.

I DO NOT CONSENT TO THIS SEARCH!

And that's the hat. Hope I find a size that fits.:yes2557:

    I don't doubt you're right.
I'm just one of those personality types that isn't easily pushed.
The harder you push me the less inclined I am to move.

I'm ok with a warrant being sworn over suspicion of carrying.
At the end of the day, they aren't going to find anything & then the fun begins.
That's when my lawyers go to that judge, the desk sargeant & everyone else involved to ask all the embarrasing questions..plus obtaing copies of the officer's in-car video stored on trunk mounted dvd recorders.

In between playing truckdriver, I play radio systems tech.
I had access to used in-car camera systems very cheaply.
I kept a simple setup in the truck.
A camera looking outside, one looking inside.
Hard to see 'em if you don't expect them to be there.

    Explain "this" Mr. Officerman.

I find it absolutely disgusting the degree to which some cops will go to justify their near meaningless existence.

Frankly, there was a time that I respected cops & worked diligently on ways to make their day safer & easier thru my primary profession.

Anymore, & especially after seeing/hearing numerous tales of this type of police agression, I'm a lot less enamoured & a lot more suspicious of their motives.

Guess I'm just old & jaded now. I didn't use to be.
But, I'm sure there's a reason why I am now.

One thing this shows me, is that you are away from your log books, and thus there is no 'chain of evidence' with those logs. Not saying all cops are crooked, but if one of every thousand ARE, then you still have a CHANCE to run into that ONE, and if he wants to screw you over, s/he will find something, or do something. So what I would/will do, is copy/scan my log sheets into my hard drive of my laptop or make a hard copy so if, for any reason i am out of contact with my log book, i will have a copy of it AS IT WAS before I handed it out of my possession.

Also, if a trooper wrecklessly pulls in front of me, and starts to be a ######0LE, i'm sorry, i'm calling for a supervisor. More than likely, it will be a trooper with a massive ego, or a newbie, who just got a badge thinking he is William SHATner. Don't care, show me a lack of respect, and ill give you the same in return. What is the biggest slap in the face ?? Having your supervisor show up because you want to be a 'Richard'.

Think it would be a good idea to have a seperate map with each states 'divisions' of state patrol, along with the corresponding telephone number/s.

I can put up with alot of crap, but something I wont put up with, is a cop flashing a badge pretending he is Captian America.

Well, his "Probable cause" was that my co driver had just stepped out of the sleeper from waking up (as we were almost to our drop point) and his first question was "Why aren't you sleeping?". Also, his eyes were red because he had just woken up and barely had time to light his first cigarette. He goes "You been drinking?" My co-driver just laughed and said "It's 8 in the morning. No."

The dog, would've been probable cause as well, they can't just waltz right into your truck and tear it up, but had the dog walked around and found a hint of something, that was their probable cause.

But, like i said he found nothing and kept to his word by letting us go. And saying "None of this would've happened if you were honest" which, i snickered at because we WERE 100% honest with him the entire time.

And as far as acting like everyone was stupid, yes that's what this guy did. He talked to me like the defense attorney would speak to a child that had been molested or some such, asking the same questions repeatedly, but in different context, etc. I had to laugh at that.

As far as spouting off my rights, and all of that.. It had crossed my mind, but I've learned from experience that with "Captain America" it's best to just nod and agree, until they find nothing and have no other choice but to let you go. Arguing would've made it alot worse IMO. They can, and WILL find something if they really want to. I've heard of tickets being written because a mudflap was too short. And, i did break out my video camera on my phone just as the wisconsin trooper arrived with his dog to sniff the truck, that guy was very polite and sensitive to the situation, he actually laughed about the camera, and asked if i wanted him to pose. lol
