Ok....I've been in the business for a little over 8 years and during that time, I've been a company driver and lease op at several different companies. I've decided to buy my own truck and lease on to Roadrunner Truckload. I have just a few questions that I'm hoping can be answered:

    1. What am I going to need to drive truck away from dealer other than tags? I'm buying in California, but recently moved to Virginia from New Jersey. I spoke to OOIDA who gave me an insurance quote and said that I could get a 5 day waiver to transport truck across country to Roadrunner orientation. Do I need a DOT number or anything else before I get there? It's possible that I may use their tags, permits, etc...or may get my own depending on cost. I have about 6 months worth of savings in addition to cost of truck, taxes, etc...is there anything else that I should allot money for that I haven't thought of?

    2. Is anyone here leased to RR Truckload Division as a team? What do you average? Is it worth it to come over as a team or should we run terminal freight or look elsewhere?

    Thanks in advance for answering!

I'm not with RR but I just bought a truck. Most of my stuff I could just transfer over but you will need insurance, a temp tag (I forgot what they called it because I just transferred everything over from my old truck) for the states you will be going through to get to orientation. The dealer may only be able to get yours for Cali. You won't need #s but will need to put "not for hire" on the doors.

Between RR and the dealer (if you are purchasing through one) they should be able to give you the exact info you need (2290 and whatnot). Good luck with your purchase and welcome to the OO world.

A few years ago JB hunt had a low mileage rate unless you agreed to forced dispatch, you lose money if you ever turned down a load... Has something changed? Only owner ops I see pulling JB trailer are from the intermodal yards

Nothing had changed except the name of the fools still hauling that buck thirty a mile contact. The old fools go under and new fools take their place.
