    Not entirely.

OTR, perhaps. But there are sectors of the industry that are still very profitable. I certainly wouldn't be doing it if that were not the case.

Maybe this is OOIDA's fault, always pushing for more training for new drivers, OOIDA won't train no one, so the mega companies are forced into becoming training companies.

There's a combination of factors that come into play here, not one smoking gun.
    1.HOS rules
2.The costs associated with getting a CDL certification
    3.Ridiculously low pay
    4.Ungrateful shippers
    5.Ungrateful consignees
    6.NIMBYs
7.Cheapskate trucking companies that LIE and STEAL from drivers' paychecks
The list just goes on and on and what I've listed is just the tip of the iceberg.

And greed. I have an organization that will pay for my cdl school, but requires a letter of intent to hire first. Now these companies will take me into their sponsored cdl traing for a contract of commitment, but wont give me a letter of intent so can obtain free training because then i wouldnt be under obligation to them.

You could apply for a federal pell grant to cover the cost of your training. Some community colleges have a CDL program. Another option is to check with your local unemployment office. When I went to trucking school, I had a few people in my class that went through WIA to obtain their CDL. I was completely unaware of such a thing at the time. Had I known then what I know now, I would've went that route. No contract with any company, and once you graduate you have your certificate and transcripts in hand. Free to work at any carrier that accepts recent CDL graduates.

I ended up with them at the moment, and haven't had any issues YET. Pay is up to a whopping .35 out the gate but i had only 2 options PAM or CRST and i think of the two PAM is the lesser of the 2 evils. But not by much at my year commitment i'm out.

Needed to re-obtain my cdl after letting it completely lapse. In a bad financial spot and couldn't afford to self pay for school.
