I have a 1994 3406e rated at 355 horse, turns out the ecm is messed up. My buddy has a 1996 3406e ecm that is rated at 410, my question is will it physically work and I know the 410 HP also had a different turbo, will this make a difference? This isn't a otr truck.
Thanks again for your knowledge.

I would try it.

You would need to check the test spec number from each ecm. Then compare the numbers on the cat site to compare the iron differences. If that's OK. Then you would have to check all the parameter differences and make those changes. If they are from different oems inputs/outputs maybe different. Also ppm will be most likely different. (Tranny, tire size etc)

Just be aware, your engine will only be good for a certain max hp rating. To uprate a caterpillar engine, sometimes iron will need to be changed. The different turbo is one of those things. If I remember correctly, higher ratings require different cylinder packs and such. I'd go into Cat with the engine numbers and see what that engine can safely handle. My ISX currently rated for 450hp can only be uprated to 475 max. Any higher needs better internals.
You could likely use the other ecm but you can't push it if your engine isn't built for it. -
Yea thanks, I looked and the low HP according to cat can max at 410 except has different turbo, same pistons, same cam, same injectors. Now the other version 425 to 525 with different bolt on configurations.

I was just wondering if the 410 HP ecm would work with the 375 HP, with the only difference is the turbo? So is the ecm the same programming and the turbo is the increase in HP?
