My fleet owner is moving me and my truck to a different company. He had me peel their decals and everything off of the truck tonight and I am going to be dropping their trailer in the am. I then need to bob-tail the truck from Denver to Memphis for the next company.

I know I'll need to run a logbook, but do I need any special signage or anything like 'not for hire' on the truck while I'm in transit? Or am I good to go just rolling without anything?

Seems to me, that if your truck still has plates and an IFTA sticker on the side, you should be alright. Its the owners job to make sure that the insurance is current, and I am sure that in your permit book you have all the permits you had from the last co. That or, a current registration, IFTA, and proof of insurance, is all the DOT looks at anyway if your inspected.

Plus yes. if you no longer have elogs, you'll need a log book and make sure you go back 7 previous days on it.

I am sure you'll be ok going that short distance, its really not that far, Denver to Memphis, be safe, have fun.

No plates or IFTA as they were through the previous company and I was told to remove all the stickers...including the IFTA stickers. I do have bobtail insurance though.

Well I would have left the IFTA stickers on the truck anyway, if it were me. It seems to me the owner should have gotten a temp piece of paper even to tape to your window instead of a real plate showing some kind of registration for the truck.

It seems to me like your taking some kind of chance on driving it and getting caught without plates and ifta. I wouldn't be too worried if you think you'll not be pulled into a an open scale, but if you think you might be, the truck could get impounded and you get the ticket and fines for it, because you my friend are the one that's driving it.

I would maybe call an open port or scale and check and see if what I am saying is correct. It could save you some time and hassle and give you the real facts you need to make the right decision.

And the real point still remains, "You Are The One That's Driving It, Any Fines and Tickets Will Be Your Responsibility To Pay", excluding of course what he the owner gets fined as well.

I will probably call tomorrow. I do have registration and ifta paperwork in the permit book...just not the IFTA stickers (anymore) The truck is only 3 weeks old, so it never has had a permanent plate on it yet.

I do not know all about that but it sounds a little off to me. When I have ran out of state with class 8 farm tag that was a red flag. I was pulled in bobtail and everyone else was shut down behind me. The tag was legal and had 14 day? IFTA. How are you going to do with no tag or IFTA? Lots of posts about transporting vehicles in the search block at the top right of your screen.

I figured it out. I'm going to have to get trip permits for the states that I'm going through. I'll also have to get the dealer to fax or email a temporary tag to me. It's not cheap (about $200) for all of the permits just to bobtail from one place to the next. Everybody's gotta have a piece of the pie I guess.

Are you lease purchasing the truck from the owner?
