I bet you got no liabilty insurance. Would have been from the company he was leased to. Bob tail ins aka unladen liabilty was probably from the company. Make sure you get a valid insurance card.
The lesson in this is when you get pissed and pull your truck from a company you(your boss) needs to hold your temper and keep quiet until you reposition the truck. Seen Leased O/O do this many times, getting mad and telling a company to stick it needs to be though out first.
Denver to Memphis without scales ain't that hard.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

The actual driving Denver to Memphis isn't that hard, however, if the bob tail is stopped on a secondary highway with no legitimate reason and he/she gets written up for dodging the scale house....it's all fun and games until a DOT officer puts his pen to the ticket book with your CDL number listed as the driver.

Why all the hurry? In a rush to get someplace? The reason the trucking industry is getting re-regulated (for those of you who understand what life was like back in the 70's and 80's) is companies and drivers are trying to circumvent the laws of commercial trucking by running illegally--- no insurance, no plates, no registration, cheating logbooks, etc.......all this says.." I'm irresponsible and cannot be trusted to make decisions that honor laws and regulations associated with professional driving"

Get the vehicle properly registered, plated, IFTA sticker applied and have at least the state minimum requirement of insurance. If you think you life is hard right now, just wait until you are involved in a fatality with that truck, then you'll understand true misery.

I've bobtailed from Washington to Wisconsin and from Wisconsin to Tennessee. Just put some not for hire signs on it and go.

Don't move the truck until the OWNER makes the truck legal. Why jeopardize your license because I'd bet if something goes wrong the owner will say you weren't told to move it.

Yes, bobtail is when you are leased to a company, and bobtailing not on dispatch. Usually you need to have the motor carrier's sign on the door.
