What kind of vehicle?

 

Save yourself and your company a lot of headaches of NOT being placed out of service, have the transmission properly mated to the engine. If you can see it, the DOT inspector can see it.
When your engine isn't properly mated to the transmission, you run the risk of clutch failure, completely toasting the transmission, driveline damage, etc.

I would bring this major maintenance issue to the attention of the truck's owner or manager.

 

Bring it to the attention to the company or person who owns the truck. Tell them you need a truck that's legal to drive not a liability or find another company to drive for, one that doesn't place their drivers at risk to attempt to save money.

 

BTW...holes (not holds) don't strip they waller our of shape. A bell housing does not have 2 "ends" The forward shape of the transmission has a bell shaped (although not a perfect BELL shape really) flange that's used to mate the transmission to the lower half of the engine using high grade BOLTS and nuts not screws. The rear "end" of your transmission connects to the driveline via a U-joint and a carrier bearing connects 2 drivelines together to reach from the end of the 1st driveline to the front of the first rear end housing. Rear ends are connected by a short driveline. When the operator engages the power divider from the cab, both sets of drive tires are supplied with power from the engine because they are now connected.

They teach this stuff at the better truck driving schools across the country if you are interested in learning how to drive a commercial tractor trailer.

Just let your manager know, he or she should know what the truck needs. Be sure to note that on your DVIR!
