Okay so you're saying if he was getting 100% of the rate and supposedly able to get the same rate Schneider is getting. Yeah good luck with that lol.
It's scary to think Schneider is making $100k+ a year off us ICs and yet they're too cheap to get rid of all the of pos 9 series trailers. :biggrin_2554:

Even with the trailer the fixed cost at Mercer even out to the same as the fixed cost here. Maybe a $100 difference. That's it

Okay 100 for a trailer, then what about tolls and always having live load/unloads.
I better be getting 500+ mile loads averaging $2+ to make up for that which i dont see happening.

I wonder what it would be like to rent a reefer trailer and lease onto someone.
Van is just too cheap... only reason I'm making it here is with all these short loads.

Mercer does not have a load board. It's dispatched. They offer a load and you have the option to take it. Sounds like something I wouldn't want to do.

Does Landstar let a driver use the headset while driving? I could see a good business person on the ball making excellent money because there is another dimension (relationships and performance) that opens new doors for higher income. But I'm sure many cant figure it out.

And that board has a hell of a learning curve. There is a post about it here on TTR. There is a O/O spyder on TTR, pm him for details.

Believe me, you don't even want to think about reefer! I pull that now, that's where most of my OTR experience is, I dream of the day I can go back to dry van. Just don't do it!

If you guys want $2+ freight, I'll tell you what to get training to get. Car hauling. 14 yrs of my driving experience is with a local mail hauler where I was home everyday. I'm a car guy, and always wanted a car lot. So in 05 I opened my own lot and I ran it with 2 employees for ten yrs. while never giving up my job. (Seniority job) I would ship cars from FL to NC @$400/car and more for trucks. I would drop $2k for 5 cars, while the truck had 4/5 more on for other customers. I assume the other customer paid the same or more than me, so the truck made $3600-$4000 for roughly a 600 mil trip. If you do cross country with just a high mount, you could probably gross $7-$9k.

I was hungry when I opened that place and made some dough, and still have 4 customers making payments to me. But ultimately lost my drive, and after a 15 years local/owning that business, I wanted to go back to a simple life and drive team with my wife again otr.

I have some experience hauling cars on a wedge that I bought, and thought about buying a truck and team coast to coast hauling cars. But like I said in a previous post, I'm lazy and would just like to not be dealing with the everyday stress of owning a business again. It would be so nice to just get a W-2 and file a 1040 lol.

Ummm you're wrong they have a load board in which you can pick your own load or you can let your coordinator pick them for you.. Either way you want to do it is up to you

I thought Mercer had a load board. You can work with a coordinator and let them pick loads for you, or choose loads off the board. Maybe I'm wrong.

They have regular board and a west coast board. It's a very confusing system, but basically if you go out west, you will get stuck out there for weeks or a month until you fall down on the regular board to the #1 position.
