why do grocery warehouses suck

I went to them all, and it comes down to one word, that would probably get this thread banned. Most people here know that word, (oops, I said too much already) I found, as a stranger, it's tough. I went to these places everyday, so I did get to know them, and I was getting paid by the hour, and they knew that, I didn't care if it took all day. What ever you do, don't piss them off. They really make it rough for those kind of people. If you have a bad time, thank them when you finally get done, and then refuse to ever go back, but don't ever go there with a bad attitude, they love that. Just remember, it's a crummy job, those warehouses, and be glad you can leave. I think they are jealous that you do get to leave, or somethin'. Good luck. ( btw, sure hit a nerve with Chinatown. Haven't seen a post like that from him in a long time. Oh, one more thing, in 35 years, I never once hired a lumper.

Be happy that they receive your load and they don't charge you for parking.
Ask for the dock foreman and see what's up before talking to any one else on the dock.

 

Not me,get paid by the hour and unload my own truck.I laugh when they try to hold me up thinking your just getting my 40 out of the way faster so I can be on time on a half,sometimes
I even tell them to take they're time checking me out.

I've learned that if you want to sit in that dock paid by the hr longer go ahead and make the dockers mad at you by telling them to get this done faster....
This really works great at auto plants especially
... I once sat at a ford Motor dock for 8hrs because the driver the day before me jumped on them to move faster
But to be honest I'd rather be moving then to sit for hrs anywhere

 

Uhh.... NO! THEY should be glad they are not charging for parking
WE don't need them nearly as much as as THEY need us
All it would take.... is one day of NO deliveries to make their ears perk up real fast

 

We'd all benefit if they all took notes from Costco. BJs has been good the few times I've delivered to them.

 

The last run I did in OTR was a food warehouse, it hasn't changed.

I worked at a company long ago 30 years ago servicing the scales at these places and every warehouse was all teamster. This last place i delivered to is a union shop. You had to deal with their time schedule, and if you complained, they stuck you in a dock where the door wouldn't open and told you to wait. There was one guy there for the day waiting because he made a big deal about his time. I watch them unload my truck of shrimp, at break time, everything stopped, the forklifts put pallets down and then parked for 30 minutes. didn't matter if it was frozen, refrigerated or unrefrigerated food, it was on the open dock.
