    Hello All,

I have been driving for years now, have experience towing trailers but not nothing with 18 wheels. I have limited manual transmission experience. I just got my CDLP last week from the state of CT. I work out of Manhattan and Spend allot of Time in NJ/PA I was wondering if anyone had a good school they could recommend either paid or non-paid. CT had me pre-pay for my road test have no idea why, given the fact that every school EG: CR England says get your Permit, Drive with them, Get your License and they will forward the Results to My DMV; My DMV said they Never heard of that. Anyways Any Help would be Great in regards to a school or program.

    Earl Henderson Trucking
    Prime Inc.
    Southern Refrigerated Transport

All 3 have good cdl programs and furnish room & board during training.

I looked into prime a little while ago, the only thing with them is they want me to switch my license to MO to do training, kinda odd

I believe Earl Henderson you have to get an IL cdl permit for their school. Then when you graduate you get an IL cdl then they route you home so you can switch you IL cdl to your state cdl.

Southern Refrigerated may do the same with AR cdl permit, but not sure. Call and ask.

If you attend a private or community college cdl school within your state, then you'll graduate with a cdl from your domicile state.

Thants more understandable, most schools wont tell you that. I didnt want to switch but If i need to I will as a last resort. I really want to get this class A and start my secondary career.

Put in 3 or 4 applications, then go for offer you like best.
Trucking is a great career. I personally like true OTR which is coast to coast & border to border.
Some like local or regional, but not me, I like long haul.

The school I went thru was called c-1 and it was in little rock, Arkansas. One you finish the school you have job placement with a trucking company

I used to drive that territory, long time ago. Your NYC experience is invaluable in CDL-land because so many drivers are put off by the complexity of driving there and refuse loads. That's something I'd use as a high ace when negotiating with employers over pay.

I'm biased but Stevens did right by me, couple weeks at school, 6 weeks on the road with a trainer, 3 - 6 weeks solo on probation then your in your own truck out making a living.....

Just a update I have been doing some training with a friend who owns a school out in NYC, So far I like it and all has been going well. Just a little tricky on the turns down some streets and the 1 of the trainers was more like a kid telling me his life stories, i pretty much drove solo for 2 hours through the most hectic streets. Day by day Im learning but im going to a real school soon with all of what I need this is just road lessions
