Only that they are DOT certified. Otherwise the cheapest you can find. The tests are standardized, but it does have to be from someone certified to give them. Chiropractic, certified nurses or doctors, doesn't matter as long as they got the DOT certification.

Another question is this where they give you a 1 or 2 year medical card? Or is this just a physical to see if you are capable of doing the job? The physical you do at the company is the actual one that issues you a medical card?

If you are going to a certain company then let them pay for the physical. Most of the big companies wont honor the physical you get beforehand.NavigatorWife Thanks this.

You get your medical certification at that time. The company you go to can either accept it or require you to take another physical. Most will accept it as long as it has a few months on it before expiration. Yours will be new so you will be good to go. Two years is the norm, but things like high blood pressure, diabetes, and some other things may result in a one year certification.

I'm Pennsylvania i need to get a DOT physical before i can get a permit in this state.rachi Thanks this.

Yes, any DOT registered doctor will do. The big occupational medical companies like Concentra are expensive, try the smaller ones or even a truck stop doctor. In the northeast there is a chiropractor at the Petro in Scranton that does $60 DOT physicals. Depending on what company you hire on with after you have your permit they may make you take another physical with their company doctor.

I am on the fmcsa website that has a search for approved examiners in my area and there are about 10 pages of doctors within 10 miles of me including the hospital a few miles from me. I just don't want to go to one that is overly anal lol with what they check.

Thats standard for all states. But once you get it and get your cdl the company may require you to get another with their doctor, but theyll pay for that one if they require it. If you just got one for a permit and then get your cdl, most likely they wont since it will have two years on it unless u get restrictions. I'm not aware of any states that will give you a permit before having a medical card.
Also if you go company sponsored training most likely they will refund like $50 on the second or third day of class.Last edited: Apr 3, 2016

No, its standardized, they all do the same tests, call around and get the cheapest. Gonna be anywhere from $60 to $120 average, but why pay $120 for the same thing you can get for less.1278PA Thanks this.
