90% of my freight is JIT deliveries. Sometimes a customer will call me when I'm doing my picks in LA and ask if I can stop here or there for an order they need by the next day.
Don't think they'll be able to call the train conductor and ask him to stop off to pick up a small order! lol
Megas and O/O need to watch this - we could all be screwed. Rail is already taking a ton of freight.

I've been hauling rail containers out of Harrisburg PA from 6 months now. Since last Nov the usual low season, that's supposed to last about 2 months and a half is still ongoing. April the 4th and out of aprox 30 trucks in our terminal only 9 had work to do. Some of us are leaving intermodal due to lack of sustainability. If you look at the two NS yards the have made huge piles of empty containers that are obviously out of circulation. Whatever is going on is not good and it's a pity. I was running really good August to November.

I don't know exactly their hours of service, but my dad worked on the railroad and they had back in 69 a sleep time of 8 or 10 hrs which could not be interrupted by the railroad, or the sleep time off started all over again. I believe they would be just like pilots and truck drivers, maybe not the same timeframe though.

What about drones delivering packages, no more UPS or FedEx. I no that can't happen, but I wonder about the dent.
China exports are down, right,? -

I worked for a class 1 railroad for 16 years. Ill say this, I would not worry about loosing freight to the railroad. Class 1s these days are primarily after unit trains such as coal, grain, oil, containers etc that just pass over there line A to B. You wont find to many smaller happy customers with the railroad such as paper mills. They treat them like dirt.

What will happen when drones happen to kill some birds along the way?
