Hey guys, I'm new here, I currently work in North Dakota at an oilfield service company.though my house and family are in eagle mountain , I've been here 3 years now and looking to get a job back in Utah. Any advice on what a good paying local company to drive for is in Utah? I applied at ABF and Saia, no reply from either yet, I called to follow up on the online application but the guy is in meetings, I applied at a few others but no progress yet, any info is greatly appreciated..I have tanker hazmat doubles and triples. Looking into getting my LCV soon also, though I have no experience driving doubles other than a little double bottom work

What part of Utah? You got pretty much every LTL in SLC. Old D, Estes, UPSF, YRC, Reddaway, R&L, Cowan, Dats, North Park Transportation(NPT), MTS.
It's a little slow so some companies are waiting. But I'm sure everyone is getting ready to hire soon. -
Thanks for the reply, my house is way out in eagle mountain so utah valley is closest to me, but I think all of those are in slc and west valley, so that's probably where I'll beccommuting, I would like to be home every night, or almost every night. Need to hit at least $60,000, I prefer night shift if you know of any that offer nights, or differential pay

I made 65k starting at .399cpm doing linehaul 4 years ago at Reddaway. Think starting pay is a lot higher. Since your inexperienced Reddaway might be a good place to start. SLC terminal is big and has a lot of linehaul runs. Pretty busy. Not the best paying LTL gig but it gets your foot in the door. Very laid back. Overall it's still a good job.speedyk and Utah Ditch Thank this.

You might consider DATS.

NPT has a pension. Also if you wreck the truck it comes out of your pension. You pay it back. So it's job security. Also less people tearing up stuff cause their held accountable comes out of your pocket. Pretty cool when I heard that.

The process to get on at ABF is long. Once you go in for an interview with the terminal manager from that point would be an additional 2 months. The background check eliminates about 90% of the applicants that a terminal manager forwards to headquarters. The terminal manager typically only sends 10% of the applicants to headquarters because so many people have criminal backgrounds or their driving records include DUI or DWI incidents from decades past. The job is Union hog board which is difficult to explain but basically the most senior man rested gets the next load for the road drivers. When it gets slow in the Fall you could sit at home for five and even seven days without working.

Reddaway in SLC is run by reject YRC managers.
Why not make the most money with benefits UPS or UPS Freight.
ABF good luck unless you know someone their.Last edited: Mar 29, 2016
